@msquebanh@krusynth "The Breakfast Clib" movie still feels fairly modern, it is kind of hard for me to beileve that the kids in the film (if they are the same age as their fictional characters) would be 57 or 58 years old now.
@ramin_hal9001@msquebanh@krusynth twas 18 when it came out. yes, it’s hard for me to believe am turning 58. am not enjoying it one bit either. my mind is too young for this bullshit.
@msquebanh@ramin_hal9001@krusynth it’s funny, by 18 in Puerto Rico, i was already finding American movies insufferable. this movie is super-gringo to me. we don't have schools like that, even less PUBLIC schools like that and i went to a pretty big PRIVATE school.
i think i could relate to the goth girl (Ally Sheedy), but tbh it's been so long, i would have to see the movie again. don't remember much about details. only remember the feeling that the poorest kids were still richer than us.
@blogdiva@ramin_hal9001@krusynth I never saw anyone Asian in any films that I could relate to, on TV or in movies here - til only about a decade ago. No disabled Chinese female leads to relate with, to this day. I watched Chinese movies & TV series to get some cultural connection.
I never liked Molly Ringwald in any films & never understood why she was in so many of the 80s films. I was a fan of Ally Sheedy & Mary Stuart Masterson in the 80s. I had a crush on Matt Dillon & John Cusack for years from 80s-90s.
Remember - Some Kind of Wonderful? Brief crush on Eric Stoltz from that movie.
> "that was who I related to most - I loved Ally Sheedy in that role."
@msquebanh Oh jeez, I still have a crush on Ally Sheedy's character in Breakfast Club, she is so beautiful. I don't know if she was supposed to be goth per say, but they referred to her as "a basket case" in the letter to the principle at the end of the film, so maybe? But yeah, I related mostly to Ally Sheedy's character, and to a lesser degree, the nerdy kid who admitted to suicidal thoughts.
