I'm rarely. I actually like talking about my tattoos, but I find it really disappointing if I explain a tattoo to somebody and they don't get it. So a lot of times I'll just wave them off and say like "they're nice shapes" or whatever.
@rlounsbury that'd be a good tattoo. I think a live oak has a big crown spread and would work better on a square patch of skin , though. Have you talked to an artist yet?
@evan I've been thinking! I would plan that right into it, depending on who should see it. But some people have tats for "self" reasons - that's different, then.
If it’s a fellow tattooed person, I don’t mind since it’s usually a nice, respectful conversation because they know what it feels like to have people ask weird questions about their tattoos. I don’t enjoy people I’ve just met asking questions since my tattoos are quite personal, but don’t mind a quick compliment. I also find it odd when people I’ve known for a while have never asked me about my tattoos or made a comment acknowledging them, as if they’re avoiding it 🤔
@johannab@evan same - like half the time the question is not rooted in good faith curiosity but really an opportunity to tell me their preferences for what women do or do not do with their bodies
@jenn@johannab@evan this is a poll that would really benefit from cross-tabs. I strongly suspect there is a correlation between gender and how one answers this question for this very reason.
@evan it took me a few seconds to remember I am a tattooed person because I haven't had a new one in awhile and the old ones are entirely part of my being
@evan Wondering if the results will be different for "Do you like when people compliment (without asking about) your tattoos?"
I don't have any currently but have considered many times, so there's an aspect of personal research.
But also, I tend to assume if they're clearly visible, they're as available for comment as a hairstyle or article of clothing. Would love to know if I'm way off base.
