All of which makes me ask again, with growing despair, why journalists continue -- by actively participating on Musk's site -- to actively support this evil man's business.
@dangillmor the answer is clear, though: so many folks using #Twitter are able to look past those naive, reductionist perspectives that obsess over Musk and instead consider the broader picture of how use of Twitter benefits their enterprises.
It’s a cut of the nose to spite the face situation to give up the benefits of using a platform just because you have a personal issue with the personality associated with it.
@dangillmor Elon musk is not extremist, the press is and you are obviously who is thinkin of twitter as a nazi place, your brain is of a low IQ less than a monkey. Don't make fool of yourself in public.
@dangillmor Excuses. Mental laziness. People stay on X because it's easier to stay with what they know, regardless of the consequences than to actually take a stand and rebuild things a different way. It happens with Meta, Microsoft Windows, iPhones, etc,etc. No one wants to lose their "friends" most of which would cut you to pieces over anything just to get a "like". It's sickening; it's how Trump got elected; it's why Brexit happened; it's why this world is so polarised.
@dangillmor people should normalize the idea that the guy isn't losing money on Twitter. He's consciously using his vast wealth to fund and enable nazis and their friends.
@dangillmor Not just journalists. Celebrities, politicians, mainstream media all use it for self promotion. Elon Musk's awful beliefs and actions pale into insignificance compared to the needs of the above named to promote themselves.
I took a bit longer than you to leave Dan (I dropped in December 2023) - but I did forgo my 16k+39k followers (johnbreslin and irelandincolour) for better platforms - anyone with any sense should do the same - and I would only return if Musk was gone (whatever that means)...

Two days ago I berated my local NBC affiliate via a stupid web form because the only social links they had listed for the station or any of their reporters were FB or twitter. The only contact method they list in their reportage chyrons are @x
I asked if they had any contact method other than FB, insta, X or stupid web form.
Unsurprisingly I have not heard back from them.

@rouxdoo@dangillmor@x@NBCDFW Perhaps because you don't actively represent money to them. Eyeballs come and eyeballs go. Sponsors make the programming and coverage decisions.
Of course, it is a business. That makes sense to me. But why would a "news organization" choose to promote an entity that is hostile to their goals (twitter is blatantly anti-news) as their primary means of soliciting feedback from viewers?
