The article began with "He prayed about it and that is what changed his mind, then ran through several other possibilities but at the end mentioned his son and what he said about that.
I'd say that was the turning point for him.

"No aid" as a policy was at risk of fracturing the GOP, and once fractured, it will stay fractured.
The core leadership will do nigh-anything to avoid that fracture, because they need the unity to enact their prefered domestic policies once Trump is again president.
@StillIRise1963 My spouse and I were just discussing that. I'm going with the CEO's of weaponry manufacturers may have been calling Johnson. I know world leaders were calling, because of press reports, but I can't see him caving to their pleas. Or else he really did realize that without UA aid, we really might have to send USA troops to Poland.
