Is it influx time?

Folk mewling outside the door in the rain going "Back on twitter I had a nice group of fellow furry plumbers from Scotland born in the early 80's who are into game boy ROM hacking, I can't find them now," ask around and @ me and people will boost your ask until it rattles around the system enough for you to find your Incredibly Specific group of people. The algorithm here is Folks and Luck, and those as don't ask don't get.

🥥 I thought your toot was asking, "Is it time?" Dan.
I'm neither a , a coin-op, nor someone who knows what a "furry plumber" is.
What I AM is an extremely shy 74-year-old who's experiencing mild cognitive issues, has a Linux question, wants to test the theory that the is all-knowing, and uses the .
I'm attempting to backup a drive to a directory on a larger drive using either , , or some better solution. 🥥

🥥 I read the examples of how to do this on the fora, but am unable to properly construct commands that work.
I'm hoping to find someone on the able to take my specific 2 drive paths and convert them into a working command.
I'll provide details and eternal gratitude to the kind who can assist me with this task.
Thanks in advance for boosting this request for specific help so that it finds the right recipient. 🥥

@JStatePost @ifixcoinops rsync -av /source/path /destination/path

JStatePost,

@starlily @ifixcoinops
🥥 My problem, StarLily, is that I'm mentally blocking on how to write the paths.
Source is a local drive on a desktop. Target is a directory on an 8TB external USB.
I'm a few hours away from my gear.
Many thanks and much love.
I really didn't expect so much help to show up so quickly. 🥥

    🥥 Nathan, thank you for responding to my question.
    I used the 'df' command to derive these paths:
    Source (dev/sdb3): /media/phil/Toshiba_Backup34
    Target (dev/sdc2): /media/phil/Seagate_Hub/Toshiba Backup/phil
    I'm attempting to copy all the files from internal drive sdb3 in my dektop box to a directory on my USB hub (sdc2). Compression not required. Deduplication and overwriting data already in that directory preferred.
    Using a flavor of Linux.

    🥥 Absolutely no need to apologize, Nathan. I am so grateful to you for your response.
    I will be experimenting with the backup assistance yo gave me as soon as the sun is over the yard arm.
    Thank YOU for your time and effort!
    Much love.

    jchidley,

    @JStatePost @ifixcoinops DD aka Disk Destroyer. Just sayin’. rsync is less risky. Ask anyone in the community for an opinion and you’ll be flooded with advice, usually including which distribution you should be running (Arch by the way). I also use Alpine.

    @ifixcoinops It's like being in an unfamiliar countryside. There are folk who know where you want to go, but you gotta hang for a minute, ask, and you'll get some answer like "well, go up the hill, then down, make like a zed and you'll be there". The answer won't make sense at first, but if you go up, down, and like a zed, you'll be right where you're trying to go.

    dennis_jernberg,

    @ifixcoinops I for one would say we're due for another Twitter exodus, considering Elon's latest "fix" and the resulting self-DDOS...
