@rolle Hi, the BSD Cafe instance (https://mastodon.bsd.cafe) is using the Mastodon Bird UI and it's set as a default option for all the users, as a site theme option. If you want to, you can add the instance to your list, as I'm planning to keep it updated and continue proposing it as the default theme for Mastodon.
The list currently looks like this. I don't remember all the instances so please let me know if your instance has #BirdUI enabled! Boosts appreciated. #MastodonBirdUI
@dustypaws Yeah as I have stated in that closed issue, it should not be a problem. It's not related to Twitter any way other than it's what the orignal inspiration is from. Birds are not all Twitter birds.

@rolle really impressed by your theme, I was looking at it on another instance last week and added it to my list of projects to follow. Have you thought about submitting it to any of the mastodon forks as a default install?
@liaizon Thanks! Good question. I have, and decided not to and it's a conscious decision:
I have built it the way it doesn't really follow the original Mastodon SCSS code base but is separate instead. This is why because the actual code base in mastodon core needs to be rewritten. It uses lots of kinda outdated methods in my opinion, SCSS variables instead of CSS variables, SCSS functions like lighten instead of real colors, so it's really a burden to maintain.
As per 1, I'm not interested in rewriting the Mastodon style code base, too much work for me personally
I wanted people to implement this very easily via Custom CSS without having to rebuild their version of Mastodon. The initial idea was that it doesn't require ANY coding experience, any admin can just copy and paste it to their instance admin Custom CSS section
For many Mastodon people my UI is simply "too Twitter" and I openly admit Twitter UI (in the good era) is my main inspiration to this theme.
Eugen has liked my post describing the things I have improved but that still doesn't mean he likes the UI completely. Adding this to the core or making it as "default" in any way would make people angry, at least with the name "Bird" in it, referring to Twitter.
So if I were to do any contribution to the core regarding to my Twitter-esque theme, I would need to be more sure that my work doesn't go in vain. And for that I'm not sure at all.
@rolle thanks for the response. I specified forks cause getting anything into mainline is sort of a hassle, I dont think theres any reason you couldn't make it as a default install option even with your alternate way of implementing it. Maybe @weex's fork Ecko or Glitch-soc would be a good place for it to be at least a preinstalled option
@liaizon Somehow I missed the word "forks" in your question, sorry, sotimes I read too fast.
Well the same things apply anyway. There are instructions on how to implement this to your own fork. After all, all instances that implement the theme directly to code are forks, including mine. :)
tyrol.social has been part of the Fediverse Foundation (an austrian non-commercial club) since yesterday and due to the server migration we have switched from Custom CSS to the site theme. :blobcatcool:
