@lrz thanks! I really doubt that I’ll ever try a marathon, but I I never thought I’d do a half until recently. For now, I’ll probably stay around 10-15km runs, as longer is harder to fit into my schedule. I’ll probably try for more half marathons on occasion.
@mlawton ah that’s my mindset as well! I know that many people consider the HM as a simple step towards a bigger goal.
The marathon has always been something impossible in my mind but very recently I have toying about the idea of cutting it in 4 pieces. 42km? No way. 4x~10km with some rest in between? Suddenly it becomes very hard but no longer impossible…
@lrz so much of growing as a runner is mental. “Just around the next bend”, “just one more lap”, “just another couple of minutes”. I had thought similarly about a HM… just two 10 kms and a bit. I like your thinking about a marathon. Carve it up and the pieces look possible. Still incredibly daunting, but possible.
@mlawton awesome. For some reason I thought you were doing really long stuff. Congrats. You never forget your first. Mine, I was just in a gravel parking lot. I was listening to music. The king of carrot flowers was playing when I crossed the the half marathon mark.
@dominicvfx I’m not one of you ultra maniacs, but I sure have an appreciation for all that is encompassed. ✊My legs could have gone longer, I think, because I’d entered that point where they go on autopilot and you stop worrying about cadence and form. My feet, less so. I could feel a hotspot that would have become a blister. This might be the top of my distance ambitions. Then again, I never thought this was a possibility either, so who knows!
