As someone who likes the idea of transhumanism:

I'ma fuckin' pass, dog.

Yewb,

Dude cant even get the software on teslas to work right and we are going to trust him with brain implants? Lol

gus,
gus avatar

And what company would you currently trust to make brain implants?

kool_newt,

I can't help but think brain implants are an inherently bad idea.

blomkalsgratin,

I believe the answer to that one to be "fucking not a-one", but that's just an educated guess of course.

hoilst,

I just love the assumption that we have to have brain implants (why? Because L. Ron Musk said so?)

GreatBigJerk,
GreatBigJerk avatar

I think it's the sci-fi fantasy of it. Like being able to download knowledge like the matrix.

In reality the real use of these is to help people with brain injuries or disabilities.

Elno wants to grift people on the former. Literally everything he does is selling people the knock off wish version of something from a sci-fi movie/book/game.

Magzter,

Musk aside, BCI will be a significant part of human lives in the distant future, they will initially aid existing tech but as the technology advances I can forsee a black mirror-esque future with our brains having a digital component.

JayGarrick,

or you know like from the 1st Kingsman movie

Maeve,

Look how it went for monkey test subjects. 😳

hoilst,

They were going to ask for volunteers from Musk's legions of loyal fans, but then they realised the subjects needed to have brains.

Maeve,

Just finished my first cuppa and had a nice and literal lol. Thanks for starting my day right!

HansGruber,
HansGruber avatar

Yeah same.
Just hope Musk won't ruin people's perception for this or similar kind of tech.

carotte,

@GeekFTW @kjr Companies already analyse our life with our activity online and know a ton about us.

What a great idea it would be to give them access to our every fucking thought

Astigma,

Yeah same here, I'm much more curious about Valve's foray into BCIs. GabeN mentioned in an interview a few years ago that they're closer than we think and I want to know what he's cooking up.

Deceptichum,
Deceptichum avatar

Finally, Mecha GabeN is near.

Rayspekt,

Immortal Mecha GabeN is the solution against enshittification in gaming.

bstix,

Whatever it is, it'll probably start with "wake up Mr. Freeman"

FiskFisk33,

I'mma call it right here, shot will go south, quickly, people will end up in prison, and Musk will somehow not be one of them.

i give it max a year or two after the first implant before we read about trials starting in the headlines.

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

I mean, it didn't go well for the monkeys. Maybe if they are fucking people up, someone will stop them, but I doubt it.

End0fLine,

This is the part of this story that I remember. It went so well with the monkeys so now they get to try on humans?

AttackBunny,
AttackBunny avatar

I'm pretty sure everything you need to understand the answer to your questions can be summed up in two words. Elon Musk.

Deceptichum,
Deceptichum avatar

So you expect trials after the trial?

FiskFisk33,

californiarepublik,

When I look at what he's done to Twitter, I definitely think 'yeah I want this dude's chip in my head!'

SnowboardBum,
SnowboardBum avatar

If he wants to get in front of the line then he's welcome to.

rynzcycle,

Do you want a super villain? Because that's how we get super villains.

Kichae, (edited )

It's way, way more likely to kill him.

I'm willing to take that risk.

Flaky_Fish69,
Flaky_Fish69 avatar

Or vegetables.

Super easy to just, forget to install the firmware…

LostCause,

Exactly what we need, billionaires tinkering with brain chips. I‘d rather die than have anything from Musk in my head, bad enough the knowledge of his existence is in there.

SpaceCadet2000,

Brain chips? What was wrong with potatoes?

Ha! Him first.

notfromhere,

What a fucking echo chamber this place is. Rename the community to /c/FuckMusk and get it over with

Singletona,

Well the best way to not have us talk about Musk like he's a moron is for Musk to stop acting like a moron.

ArugulaZ,
ArugulaZ avatar

He wants to use this technology to "cure autism," which sounds like it's coming from a position of self-loathing, projected onto everybody else. If he wants to stick chips into his brain, fine, but personally, I don't need a cure for the disease of being me.

Hope he's the first human guinea pig, if he trusts it so much

YolkBrushWork402,
YolkBrushWork402 avatar

This is gonna end up terrible, why the hell would you want chip in your brain?

kool_newt,

In capitalism, there is no doubt this will be used to compel labor. Imagine if your boss or some authority could inflict severe pain that causes no physical damage until you comply? Hello neo-slavery!

YolkBrushWork402,
YolkBrushWork402 avatar

Sounds dystopian, this sounds like an episode straight out of Black mirror why the hell would anybody want to support this?(or is there nobody aside from elon supporting it?)

Kari,

This sounds like something that everyone else is going to not comment on until they see how it turns out. Not to mention that it is way too early to even test on humans cause the monkey trails ended badly. Though I’m sure the Musk fanboys will line up as fast as possible.

TZUI1hRq,

In socialism, there is no doubt this will be used to compel labor. Imagine if your commissar or some authority could inflict severe pain that causes no physical damage until you comply? Hello neo-slavery!

avonarret1,

That's not socialism...

kool_newt,

In an authoritarian socialist society maybe, like a USSR of 2025. Socialism doesn't imply authoritarianism, e.g. libertarian socialism, anarcho-communism

ladychelseaofthevoid,

Elon should be the first guinea pig, then, see if they can install a chip to make his brain work right

userdata0,

This is a huge nope from me. This is a company that is spearheaded by a man with negative sense of morality and should not be involved in anything that is this morally grey.

I wouldn't trust Musk if he told me that water makes things wet.

He's a snake oil salesman.
