I mod 4, but only the smallest one (worldwithoutus) is actually mine.
It has about 240 people now, so according to the 90:9:1 rule (out of every 100 people 1 posts and 9 interact) there should be 2 people posting but in reality it's not at that point yet! However, I like doing it.
The other 3 are bigger but not any more active.
very small user bases
If you're talking about the stats, you're probably only able to see how many accounts from your own instance are subscribers.
Kbin is kind of weird because the software is way less developed than Lemmy and it has regular outages, so a lot of people signed up and then left, a lot of communities got abandoned due to inactive mods and spam problems. So something like the kbin worldnews community I mod has literally thousands of inactive subscribers.
@dansup does stackoverflow really have anything that the other link aggregators / ranked forums like lemmy or kbin don't other than an automod closing functionality if you don't have enough karma and the ability for a thread's OP to pin a reply?
A lot of the larger abandoned magazines are just spam pools now. I don't see their posts in my feed, but I don't like that the two sidesbars of random posts and threads are now just spam advertising sidebars. I triedblocking the magazines, but doesn't that prevent the posts from showing in those sidebars....
It’s weird. And it’s all pharma. Buy oxy! Buy Valium! I haven’t seen much other spam lately; a couple of months ago, it was thinly veiled product line stuff: “such-and-such company provides high-quality tools for Y industry” stuff, but back then I wasn’t noticing it was specifically coming from kbin. That’s all gone away, and now it’ll be a run of a half-dozen “Canadian” pharma adverts in the unfiltered World feed.
It’ll be interesting to see what solution some enterprising person comes up with. It’ll involve an LLM, no doubt.
Unforcunately the admin\creator of kbin has personal issues and is missing. We need to leave, but that means migrating manually which is annoying. Too bad, there are some good idas here.
Kbin got the same rexodus boost as lemmy but since then has many more atrophied communities and far fewer moderaters to do anything about it, hence spamalot.
I've only seen 1 or 2 pieces of spam in my feed and that was months back - interesting that you seem to be seeing more of it on a federated server. I only started blocking those magazines when I noticed the spam on desktop sidebars.
There are two mods currently, Ernest, admin of kbin as well as owner of /m/tech, and @artillect, who hasn't been seen (except for votes maybe?) for 8 months.
The word is that Ernest has real-life problems and can't maintain kbin at the moment.
I've applied here and a bunch of other places but hopefully better-qualified, more active people have also applied; Even if I get it, I can't be here all the time.
... but it needs the owner of the magazine, Ernest, who isn't around, to accept the applications.
@enobacon Not until reminded. Not sure if it is how kbin works, or firefox, but looking at alt text is annoying enough that I would assume nobody looks at it.
Hi there, in the upcoming kbin releases, I will be describing the changes along with author tags, but for now, you can check out what's happening here: https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core/activity, as well as my personal feed: https://ernest.dev...
@ernest how do I report a Magazin on kbin.social ? There is a usere called "ps" who is posting to his own "antiwoke" Magazin on kbin.social. Please remove this and dont give them a chance to etablish them self on kbin.social. When I report his stuff it will go to him because he is the moderator of the magazin? Seems like a...
Artemis was a promising mobile app for Kbin, with a dedicated community, a rapid pace of development, and a high level of polish. Then, the developer disappeared.
What some Lemmy communities that are dead or very low number of new posts that you would like to get more active?
My pick is /c/albumartporn
Could blocked magazines no longer appear in Random Post and Random Thread sidebars?

This place is getting spammed by bots and nobody acts
I just found a handful of bots that are spamming lemmy and kbin communities for hours but this place here does not seem to do anything against it....
