In rare instances, if the left and right frame inserts of Ruger SR22 pistols are not properly secured together, the firing pin blocker lifter and hammer block can move independently of each other, potentially rendering them ineffective. If this situation occurs, the pistol will intermittently exhibit a “slack” single-action trigger and has the potential to discharge if decocked over a live round. (Watch our overview video)
NOTE: A “slack” single-action trigger occurs if, while operating the pistol in single-action mode with a magazine inserted, the slide forward, and the manual safety disengaged, a trigger pull does not encounter resistance and the hammer does not fall.
@viking there's been no official announcement or anything, but the last change to Kbin's software was about 4 months ago, and there are no admins here who have the ability to block or ban accounts or other instances, so spam can only be hidden not removed from magazines that still have moderators.
@BenjMathis1
I just made an account on mbin just in case. Though I will still be using Kbin it doesnt hurt to try it.
I think Kbins main problem is what a lot of open source projects go through which is all the contributions being from programmers having a team of programmers is great but having artists admins community managers is important as well.
Ernest is currently the main dev and community manager when he is not programming which is a lot of work for one person.
The last update did mention applications for becoming a site moderator which I think means on the instance level and not magazine level.
Also I noticed on mbin I got a notification from your comment where it says @username even though it links to kbin social I am guessing it looks at the username and not the instance it is from when someone mentions a username?
@Gamers_Mate Oh, 100% Everything around Kbin aside, Ernest had a ton of stuff going on in his personal life that should totally take precedent over this here.
I did see the post about applications for instance-wide moderators, which Kbin definitely needs. But I don't believe any action has been taken past the announcement yet.
But that's really interesting. I just checked and I got a notification for your last comment over on my Mbin account as well. I don't know if maybe it has something to do with the fact that my Mbin account is subscribed to this magazine as well and got looped in as well or what? I may have to look into it and see if either it's just a bug or if I'm doing something wrong lol.
Apparently people are portraying campus protests as entwined with "Antifa radicals" who are the recipients of secret funding by shadowy outside influences.
One of the funders they point to is George Soros, a rich Jewish man who antisemitic conspiracy theorists believe funds most everything the right wing hates.
The person who boosted this is the administrator of an instance devoted to Jewish Fedi-users, btw, and the magazine that is referenced is a right wing Jewish magazine.
A lot of the larger abandoned magazines are just spam pools now. I don't see their posts in my feed, but I don't like that the two sidesbars of random posts and threads are now just spam advertising sidebars. I triedblocking the magazines, but doesn't that prevent the posts from showing in those sidebars....
Most of the content being federated to my instance from kbin appears to be mostly adverts for websites selling pharmaceuticals - usually advertising controlled substances.
After a couple from the same magazine(? kbin’s term?) I just block the community. But it’s pretty non-stop. I guess it’s not yet considered to be worth defederating, but yowsa.
If your main goal is exporting your magazine subscriptions between accounts across instances, may I suggest trying EXIT tool. If you are looking for more complex export settings (friends/favorites?), unfortunately, only subscriptions are supported at this time.
Indeed. I've heard that from others as well.
I, personally, do not intend to delete my account (yet), but I am aware that it is a manual process. As so much is here, it seems.
I recently made some adjustments to my stuff here and it's helped a little. (You'll see the irony momentarily.)
I've unsubscribed from most kbin magazines and have subscribed to magazines (communities) from other Fediverse instances instead. Now my feed actually has content and a lack of SPAM. So, essentially, I'm here in name only.
Eventually, all of us normal users will need to ditch this platform because we won't our names/accounts tied to something that is notorious for SPAM and other illegal activities. Perhaps sooner than later, if the rest of the Fediverse decides to stop federating with kbin.
Until then, I figure at least I can still look through the window at the rest of the Fediverse.
@jan@haploc I hit over 9000 enqueue yesterday. First time that has happened to me since I spun my instance in late 2022. It just kept adding up. It would get down to 5K then jump back up. The day before I had a backlog of over 3000.
I went to the live feeds, all, & Flipboard (.com) Magazines, sometimes 7, 8, 9 posts of the same content from different accounts/magazines, endlessly. When Flipboard died down, my backlog cleared up quickly. Are they posting in batches? Maybe unrelated, but odd.
Explanation on how the Fediverse benefits Flipboard@mia also posted that creators on Flipboard can apply to have their accounts Federated.
If you’re interested in getting your Flipboard account federated, you can apply here. Please note: we are currently only federating creators and curators who have two or more active Magazines and no trust and safety issues. (Flipboard on Medium)
I already applied, although due to my Flipboard account’s small size, I doubt I will get selected—but the worst answer I will receive is “No.” (I am @darnell which is not Federated yet as of this post).
I already have numerous accounts in the Fediverse, & for those wondering why, the answer is simple: I like to curate! 😂 Here is a list of my accounts on the Fediverse thus far:

Back On Topic (Flipboard)
Last year, in December, I suggested Flipboard federate magazines (I do not think I was the only one suggesting this) & to my surprise, Flipboard began federating magazines in February this year.
I believe Flipboard will become the largest instance in the Fediverse due to ActivityPub being activated by default (Threads, by contrast, will turn off ActivityPub by default) & potentially become a central information hub that could rival Google News.
I currently use @mastofeed (by @Barredo) to connect my Flipboard account to Mastodon, but Flipboard’s RSS feed does not reveal my commentaries when sharing) which can be confusing.
If my Flipboard account has ActivityPub activated, I could repost my thoughts from Flipboard to the Fediverse with my opinions intact.
Not so long ago, I finished parking about 900 computing related papers, books and magazines in my paperless instance. I felt like I'd finally finished the annoying work of fixing titles and tagging stuff.
“We watch Bluey every week as a family, and I tell you, when Bandit sat Bluey down to explain to her that what she saw was just him and Mum doing something the therapist made them promise they’d do every Sunday night at precisely 7:30 p.m., I teared up,”
Americans can finally watch the banned ‘Bluey’ episode
Biscuits! Bandit is “giving birth” to baby Bingo!

By Rosie Colosi
“Bluey,” the show of a thousand surprises, now has a shocking new episode for American viewers.
Technically speaking, the episode isn’t “new,” but it is the only “Bluey” episode not available on Disney+. Rabid fans of the series will be delighted to stream it on the official “Bluey” YouTube channel.
The episode is titled “Dad Baby,” and it centers around a game of pretend play that is the cornerstone of virtually every installment of the show. This game has a potentially controversial plot, however. Bandit, Bluey’s father, is “giving birth” to baby Bingo.
Creator Joe Brumm discussed the episode with The Hollywood Reporter in June 2023.
“You’ve gotta be really careful in preschool,” he said. “Lots of words have to get changed, and then behaviors and concepts get dulled down. And eventually I would just hit these walls, and sometimes I’d say, ‘Look, I can’t change this. This is too funny.’ Or, ‘I like it too much.’”
He goes on to reference the “banned” episode. “‘Dad Baby’ for instance, doesn’t get shown in America. But what are you going to do, not make ‘Dad Baby’? I love it," he said.
What is the “Dad Baby” episode about?
The seven-minute episode begins innocently enough, with little sister Bingo discovering an old baby carrier and asking her mother, Chilli, what it is. Bandit dons the carrier (which they delightfully call a “papoose”) and Bingo, being the cheeky 4-year-old that she is, immediately climbs inside.
Bluey notes that it looks as though “Daddy has a baby in his belly,” and shouts, “I know what we can play!”
“This isn’t going to end well,” says Chilli as she calmly flips through a magazine. Having birthed two babies, she would know.
Bandit tries to “act pregnant” by complaining about his back, his feet, his hunger and his stretch marks while Chilli swats at him with her rolled up magazine to tell him exactly what she thinks about his “act.”
So far, there really isn’t anything in the plot to ruffle feathers. But then, after Chilli reminds the “baby” to start kicking, Bluey sets up her father to “deliver” Bingo in the kiddie pool in their backyard.
“I’m coming out!” yells Bingo as she squirms out of the bottom of the baby carrier. Bluey enlists Lucky’s dad to pretend to deliver the baby.
“How hard can this be?” says Lucky’s dad, who really wants to wrap this up and watch the cricket game. “I’ll just grab a leg!”
Bingo is not interested in being born quite yet. She climbs back inside the baby carrier. Eventually, though, Bluey pulls on Bingo’s foot while Lucky’s dad pushes from above.
Lucky’s dad tries to abandon his friend in this moment of need, but Bandit grabs his hand and says, “You’re not going anywhere,” followed by, “Sing to me, Pat!”
Bingo is eventually pulled out, causing Bandit to yell, “BISCUITS!” Bingo says in a tiny voice, “Born.” And everyone cheers.
As an obviously exhausted Bandit stares at his “newborn,” Chilli yells from the balcony: “Well done, honey! She’s beautiful!”
When will there be more “Bluey”?
The timeline of the fourth season of “Bluey” is unclear, but all signs point to spending more time with the Heeler family in the future.
A show spokesperson “double confirmed” to the Australian Broadcasting Company that they have “no plans to end the show.”
It might feel like a dog’s age until the new season begins. But in the meantime, there are 154 episodes to rewatch and share.
In the same 2023 interview, Brumm got to the heart of why “Bluey” means so much to so many families.
“It’s funny for the kids — like, kids love it because it’s silly and it reminds them of themselves — whereas I think it makes parents get emotional because having kids is emotional and it’s just a mirror to you,” he said. “You’re not crying because of Bandit’s love for his kid, you’re crying because of how much you love your kid and he just reminds you of that.”
Hello everyone, check out my announcement post linked above and if you don’t know who I am, check out my past post to learn more about me and It would mean a lot of you show your support for my future iniatives inside the fediverse!...
It won't show any posts if you're joining from a remote instance 'cos MBin returns empty outboxes for their magazines, but there's only one post there atm anyways.
Lemmy will probably error when clicking that link, so just wait a bit and refresh.
So this comment has one link, and two paragraphs about how it might not work as expected, but - other than that - yay Fediverse!, I guess, ha ha.
kbin (at least kbin.social) has a nice little community, but we're holding on by a thread over there since we've been overrun with spammers and nothing is really being done to combat it. A good chunk of people have jumped ship because of it, but we're still trying to fight where we can.
I made an mbin alt, but I haven't really hung out enough here to get a proper feel of it. Honestly it feels like looking through a window to the rest of the fediverse. If there's any chill mbin (edit) instances magazines, I'd love to know!
Beehaw seems to have the most positive vibes, and I really like that. It seems small, but they're pretty active. I mainly enjoy their gaming community.
I think I interact the most with Lemmy, but that's probably because that's where most active instances are. You'll get a lot more different takes on there than anywhere else, some great, some not so great, but that comes with any site where you bring a bunch of people together.
Of course, these are from my experience and opinion. I'm interested to see others' takes.
3 or 4 spam "Buy Phloboxidril Now In Your Area" posts per day were tolerable. 20 to 50 aren't. I know I could block the magazine, but I'm just one of the many who are subjected to it....
Using this approach, I am seeing none of those posts on /science. I updated the filters a bit today. The top post is a legitimate article from 2024-04-13 and is by HeartyBeast.
Now, I understand that this is seen as an unnecessary step (too fancy) for some. People want zero ads out of the box without anything extra. So I'm thinking about the next approach here.
Framing the problem:
Filtering should be automatic
End-user wants zero additional setup
There is no active upstream development
It's not possible to inherit moderation of a magazine due to some queue of moderator application requests that is not being approved
The third point and fourth points are important here, since that's currently intractable. You can't reconcile zero additional setup with that.
But let's suppose becoming moderator of a defunct magazine (point 4) were possible while point 3 remained unresolved. In other words, at least moderators can try to pick up the pieces. Something being underestimated here is how annoying it would be for the moderator to manually cull posts every single day. I think you would have instant turnover after a couple of weeks once the tedium sets in. Manual solution is not good. Clearly, automation is needed on the moderation side.
So assuming you could actually inherit a magazine, but with no guarantee of upstream development, what about restructuring the tool above so that it's for moderators, instead of end-users? That's pretty easy, and I could make it something the moderator clicks once and it's done, auto-banning the posts. This is a pretty good method.
But you can't inherit moderation right now, so that's back to square one.
Realistically, that leaves these options at the moment:
Wait (a long time) and see
Use the tool above and make magazines readable, albeit at some sacrifice of convenience (?)
Migrate to another instance
Third approach is the path of least resistance and is best for most casual users. Second is for diehards who cannot move instances due to some personal or technical reason. First approach is the most annoying and eventually leads to the third approach after frustration sets in.
Pick your poison, I guess. I can't think of any other prophylactic approach at the moment, maybe this comment triggers some idea.
Personally, I would argue that it’s more just bad business practice; non-competes are inherently protectionist and do not really fit well into the idea of a free-market (in my opinion, at least.)
Also, this magazine is “Neoliberal,” but not in the sense the term is used in leftwing circles. I also doubt many would actually identify themselves as a Neoliberal outside of this magazine.
On this magazine (an offshoot the subreddit, r/neoliberal, which itself is an offshoot of r/badeconomics), it is really about Free trade, competitive markets, pro-immigration, YIMBYism, pro-Carbon taxes, pro-international cooperation, LGBTQ+ rights, Democracy, human rights, civil liberties, due process, etc.
For more context on why it took on the term “Neoliberal” it was originally taken in jest during the US 2016 election where it became very commonplace (on reddit and twitter, at least) for anyone who wasn’t 100% pro-Bernie to be labeled and dismissed as a “Neoliberal shill.” The r/neoliberal subreddit took off, and basically, we have center-left social policies and support free markets.
However, unlike classical liberals and so-called “libertarians” we believe there are instances where the government can correct market failures. (This FTC ruling is one such instance, and controlling interest rates is another.)
While Neoliberalism as a term is often associated with the Thatcher and Reagan eras, many on this magazine decidedly do not agree with much of their thinking and regard some of the major policies as having failed, or at the very least as being ineffective.
What differentiates us from many on the left is we do not believe corporations, businesses, or the pursuit of profits are inherently evil or that government intervention is always the best solution to a problem (or that it would even make many situations better.)
We are also against protectionist policies such as trade tariffs (Jones Act, for example, increases the cost of shipping in and out of the US, passing the cost onto the average American,) unnecessary (or excessive) US occupational licenses (they act as barriers to entry,) and single-family zoning (regarded as one of the a major causes of the housing crisis and a car-centric urban fabric, at least in the US and Canada.)
I don't know if you saw my last thread about KES in this magazine
I did. I would still be commenting about it as I don't think extra stuff should be necessary to fix a problem like this. Filters should exist especially for new accounts (even the most cautious implementation could make a big difference), comparing names to banned accounts before account creation too (or shadowbanning so they don't just choose different names).
because it loads content that, AFAIK, doesn't respect your actual block settings
Oh yeah, funnily enough the one thread in my image that isn't spam was from a community I blocked. (at least I think it was, hard to tell with different instances)
Also to add to my list above, I just noticed a lot of spam posted in the food community. Also checking from the top of the magazine list with default sorting: tech, TodayILearned, space, showerthoughts, programming (though some of the spam is related SEO-type garbage). Books has 1 piece of spam and 1 user (probably bot given the post with 503 - Service unavailable in a title) who just aggregates Amazon links+descriptions.
Of course, I'm not trying to suggest that a third-party prophylactic tool is a definitive solution to what is ultimately a separate problem, just trying to be pragmatic here and restore basic readability for end-users, whether the filtering is done at the source or after the fact.
Let's be real here, we are talking about unmoderated magazines on an instance where the developer is AWOL and using a framework that is lacking many basic features. Even with moderators, manual moderation can be a big ask and is time-consuming for free volunteers, depending on the volume of posts or how rudimentary the moderation tools are.
I actually don't read kbin magazines much, so I wasn't aware of the extent of the problem until I started opening those magazines more closely, and felt that something is better than nothing.
On the magazines you mentioned, I do see a few anomalous patterns that I'll start filtering. For the most part, with filtering enabled, they were almost entirely free of garbage, save for a few patterns I may have missed on the first few passes. /programming and /food I need to take a deeper look at. The /food thing is good intel, because the use of Amazon referral links in the threads is something that can be generalized to other situations beyond books. Posting referral links is definitively block-worthy.
I also noticed some stuff that by any other name would be considered a thinly-veiled ad, such as specific users only posting articles to web sites they own and operate. I'm not talking about bots as such, but actively promoting one's own content--even when such content is on-topic for the magazine. I declined to filter this stuff yet, because it received a lot of upvotes and seemed to be received favorably, maybe because the readers felt it was at least germane to the topic at hand? I think this is probably true for /food as well, because the line between "content" and "promotion" is unclear here, since what is a food blog if not a product generating click revenue? It seems like the tolerance threshold for that sort of thing is higher in a magazine like /food versus some other magazine. Anyway, I digress. I'm not treating such stuff as in scope, just filtering what is blatantly noise.
So, the reason why the URL doesn’t work is that the DNS record is deleted, and the httpd is no longer configured to serve this content (so the requests fail even if you spoof the DNS, especially since they use HSTS, with which most browsers won’t let users add a certificate exception).
There is another software that is meant as a frontend for Instagram (proxigram) but even if it isn’t discontinued, none of the instances I could find work (they all return '403 - blocked" at best).
