Some code related to "PFCP offloading" or "PFCP tunneling" has just appeared in mainline linux. Oddly enougn PFCP is not a tunneling protocol, and the code itself claims its not implementing PFCP. Trying to find out more about it: https://lists.openwall.net/netdev/2024/05/15/95 - if anyone knows more, I am very curious.

@kernellogger @pink @Bubu In case any of you are wondering, https://lore.kernel.org/netdev/ZkZ62F_iCCOf4nmM@nataraja/ is the latest follow-up on it. It really seems like there is a pfcp net-dev/udp_tunnel which doesn't do any tunneling and just exists so PFCP can be offloaded to a NIC. Feels wrong to me, architecturally.

behind the scenes, we've been helping @onomondo implementing a complete UICC/USIM in pure software. This code has just been publicly released as open source software, see https://github.com/onomondo/onomondo-uicc

pySim will soon have GlobalPlatform SCP02 and SCP03 support. Code is already working against real cards but needs cleanup: https://gerrit.osmocom.org/c/pysim/+/35462 and https://gerrit.osmocom.org/c/pysim/+/35793

I finally got my proof-of-concept (and world wide first open source) SM-DP+ for consumer eSIM to work. This is the component from which the eUICC (chip in phone) downloads encrypted eSIM profiles. Code at https://gerrit.osmocom.org/c/pysim/+/35461 - will be merged to pysim master soon.

“It’s easier, and more comfortable, for to argue that it’s all about the . The hard truth is that and are simply better overall.”

@gruber via https://daringfireball.net/linked/2023/06/01/android-switcher-reasons

The report at https://cirpapple.substack.com/p/why-android-owners-switch-to-iphone disingenuously leads with “for some buyers [the reasons] include the desire to use and among family and friends.” But it turns out that number is only 6%!

@asjmcguire is an industry trade group and does not set the standards for . That’s done by and none of their 5G standards cover despite GSMA’s assertion that “the 5G standards mandate the implementation of RCS in 5G networks and devices.” https://www.gsma.com/futurenetworks/rcs/universal-profile/#:~:text=the%205G%20standards%20mandate%20the%20implementation%20of%20RCS%20in%205G%20networks%20and%20devices.

Saying that GSMA has a mandate over 5G is like saying the has a mandate over audio codecs.

Also N.B.: is not listed as a member of GSMA: https://www.gsma.com/membership/industry-membership/
