Quandary: my Apple ID is linked to the UK, though I'm physically in the EU 50% of the time. I need to link my Apple ID to the EU in order to be able to install the #AltStore app store. But this could really mess up my (UK-based) family settings, not to mention existing subs, media purchases, etc. In short: fuck Brexit

Me: it is your own fault you're being screwed by Apple, and so it is important that you stop purchasing Apple products (or you will compound the problem).
@markhughes@ottocrat All closed gardens operate similarly. I have had similar problems* with Android and Amazon. There is no difference between tech oligopoly players and choosing the least bad is not as good as regulating them all properly.

Heard today about someone who moved to Ireland but kept UK driving licence as long as possible allegedly bc no mechanism for putting points on it. 🤔🙄
No dobra, moje wątpliwości w kwestii „otwierania” iPhone’a na nowe sklepy z aplikacjami się potwierdziły.
W środę postanowiłem zakupić #AltStore za €1,50. Niestety tuż po opłaceniu produktu przez Apple Pay napotkał mnie pierwszy problem – pojawiły się komunikat, że link wygasł. Pieniądze zeszły z konta, a AltStore’a nie mam. Sprawdziłem maila, a tam pustka, nic nowego nie przyszło.
Pomyślałem „dobra, to są mali twórcy, może mail przyjdzie jutro”. Ale w czwartek zaglądam na pocztę i też brak wiadomości. Piszę więc do twórców o sytuacji. Odpowiedzi wciąż nie mam. Kasy też. Nawet nie wiem jak anulować tę subskrypcję, bo przecież nie mam żadnego potwierdzenia zapłaty oprócz potwierdzenia z banku.
Dopiero przed chwilą wpadłem na pomysł, który się sprawdził - otworzyłem stronę zakupu aplikacji w polu zamawiania wpisałem adres mailowy. W końcu! Pojawiła się opcja, żeby zarządzać subskrypcją i tam mogłem bez problemu pobrać sklep z aplikacjami (który swoją drogą zawiera tylko dwie aplikację, z czego jedna jest już dostępna w AppStore za darmo, a za drugą musiałbym jeszcze zapłacić).
I właśnie dlatego byłem przeciwko dodawaniu zewnętrznych sklepów z aplikacjami. Zraziłem się. Mam sprzęt Apple, a w ogóle już nie czuję tego feelingu Apple, bo producent telefonu nie mógł wymóc na twórcy sklepu bezpieczeństwa i bezproblemowego działania.

Edit: na Reddicie można przeczytać, że nie jestem jedyną osobą, która miała problemy z zakupem AltStore
@wariat już poprawiłam post. Chodziło o to, że trzeba było wejść jeszcze raz na stronę zamówienia, tak jakbym składał nowe zamówienie i wpisać ten mail, który podałem podczas zakupu. Ale wciąż żadnego maila nie dostałem.

@uniqx Presumably you're aware that F-Droid has a strict policy of not allowing apps that are built with non-free software (using the Free Software Foundation definition)? Can iOS apps be built with fully #FOSS build tools?
@kiwix I don't think they can. So chances are there'll never be a true equivalent of the f-droid.org repo for iOS. It's really up to apple and legislators at this point. But with some compromise on tooling-freedom there's still a lot of potential for improving user freedom.
Congratulations @altstore! Becoming the first official 3rd party app store for iOS is a mighty achivement and doing it open source from the begining is incredible.
I kind of forgot until recently but there is a bug in certain versions of iOS14 allowing for an app to be permanently signed. If like me you still have a secondary device specifically for #jailbreak under a valid version, #Permasigner is a nifty and convenient alternative to constantly resigning your untethered jailbreak payload app with #AltStore for instance. https://github.com/permasigner/permasigner
