Someone in the village must have got a fat fine or even a ban for - the local speedwatch sign has been destroyed - even though the electronic "SLOW DOWN" sign cannot result in a charge even if it contains a camera (some do!) -All that happens is after repeated hits the registration mark is put on a list, driver gets a warning and the list sent to Constabulary (so they would have to be repeat offenders to actually get a ticket)

Solar powered electronic sign that shows 30 SLOW DOWN if you drive past it at >30 mph (it might have a camera inside it, about half of these signs (which appear on various rural and suburban streets from time to time) do contain camera.

Ach, never mind warnings, just fines and points on the licence. I can forgive people for speeding on the open road. I've got no time for speeders in towns and villages. Too many lives are at risk.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@vfrmedia
I can appreciate the problem. One of the local villages has a long straight going through it. It isn't uncommon for cars and lorries to thunder through at 60+mph, when the speed limit is 30mph. Worrying when walking the dog along the pavement, never mind kids playing on side streets. There is a speed sign, but, it only gives a warning, nothing else.

I love Sugar Snap Peas.
I hate stringy bits.

Unfortunately, trying to enjoy the first often results in discovering the second.

Who the **** gave my mobile number to Snapchat?

I just received an unsolicited text from Snapchat.

Instantly BLOCKED, of course.

@daniel_bohrer
Indeed! Hard to tell without clicking the number.

I've noticed that the first thing many people do when you give them your mobile number is enter it into WhatsApp. My mobile number might've leaked from that.

It is almost 6pm here. What should I do?

  • Work on that $HELL_PROJECT for $MEGACORP?
  • Take a nap?
  • Go run some errands? Like buying chicken for dinner?
  • Work on my home-made backup script?

This is not a poll, because I am going to take a nap anyway.

I note Murena are promoting the Murena One. See my recently boosted post.

Seems pretty decent spec for 199€, including /e/ OS pre-installed, and a two year warranty.

Anyone got one?
What's it like?

We have had a long period of dry, sunny weather The exception was Sunday night when we had two 5 minute thunderous, heavy rain showers. It has since returned to sunny weather.

In consequence, the pollen that was in the air was washed down by the rain, and concentrated in puddles on the roads. The water has now evaporated away, leaving lines of yellow pollen everywhere.

I don't know the source of the pollen, but, judging by the quantity I suspect it is from trees.

Not sure that is it. Very little gorse in the vicinity. If it travelled a long way, wouldn't it disperse?

I've been noticing lots of weird searches landing on my website, all of them for .

After a bit of detective work I realised I was "benefiting" from searches with a misspelling.

I've become a search typo squatter. 😃

The searchers were looking for Preposterous the Grouch dog from Sesame Street. However, they typed "Gruoch dog", and landed on my website. 😂 😂

What Gruoch, the white Akbash dog, really looks like.

There must be a word, or term, for at least one of these three things. They all relate to seeing someone you know:

  1. The "are we going to acknowledge each other?" moment.

There's many reasons why someone you know might not acknowledge you, or you might not acknowledge them.

For example, they might be embarrassed at where they are or what they're doing. They might be lost in thought. They may be in a bad mood.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@dajb
Say hello every time. Even if you both continue walking, the courteous minimum has been done. If you both have time to chat the body language will be clear.

If they completely ignore you, that is their problem.

The rural perspective. 😃

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@hengymrohebwlad
I say hello to everyone, unless the "street" is really busy. I'm like Crocodile Dundee in New York.

@dajb

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@dajb
"Hello" is hardly intruding. Asking about their sex life might be intruding. You never know, saying hello might make their day. Ignoring people will almost certainly lead them to consider you in a negative light.

fitheach,
@fitheach@mstdn.io avatar

@vfrmedia
Is that because "seniors" have less busy lives, or they have come to the realisation that being friendly doesn't cost anything?
