I recently revived my Reeder 3 app on my iPad, only to discover that most of the feeds to which I had formerly been subscribed are defunct. Might pay to upgrade to the newest version.

RSS promised to free us from the balkanization of media, but the billionaires have been trying to kill it ever since and force you into views their websites directly to generate more ad revenue.

So, I thought I’d start making a list of sites I read that have RSS feeds that actually show up with previews. …

Wow, I just got a compliment from David Pastorius on my playing… honestly didn't expect something like that to happen… ever 🤯. Time to sit down and practice some more now. This is hugely motivating!

Weekends are for #music.

Today's #UnsupervisedBassPlayer moment:

#Ibanez #SRC6MS crossover bass with the #Donner White Tape delay

which is a real steal at $40.

Also, I have figured out the settings to fix my audio sync issue which was killing me to watch. #OBS

Also also, learning good settings in #Handbrake to make the file size non-traumatic for my poor admins

#BassGuitar

bass guitar player in the dark, playing a melodic high thing for a few to highlight the delay pedal

Time for more

  • excessive OBS overlays? ✅
  • party? ✅
  • effects turned up to ludicrous? ✅
  • flubs and sloppy playing for all to enjoy? ✅

venya back on his bullshit playing bass guitar like actual guitar only worse. Overlays show the hashtag and logo, text saying "this might be something someday" and more text proclaiming "Unsupervised bass player". In the upper left corner is a picture of the EHX Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi which is providing the effects, with markers highlighting the settings on the pedal.

Seems like nothing is happening until I write a blog post and then it turns out my life is actually terribly busy

(and even so I left out some REALLY cool stuff like getting to hear pre-release @error47 music, an experience which you should absolutely envy)

It is downright distressing how many people in my local #Craigslist ads are looking for #bass players right now

I don't know why there aren't more bass players.

  1. it's fun
  2. it's actually pretty easy if you have a good sense of time (which is trainable!)
  3. you don't have to be amazing to be what they need

@m3

Yes, absolutely!

A "good enough" is not necessarily very expensive. I like ; even their GSR180 is very playable. ( TRB series is also popular for beginners.)

The app/site is a pretty good starting tool for learning the basics.

My favorite bass teaching channel on YouTube is BassBuzz: realistic, funny, well-produced, and not ridiculous with the shilling for his paid stuff.

I don't like to pimp my (which is all on archive.org anyway) and other people need this WAY more

but I would be remiss not to remind the fediverse that the new "Salvation" album from @jessica and the is now on BandCamp also: https://jessicabkelly.bandcamp.com/album/salvation

(For that matter, the Death Cult LP and Unspeakable single are also full of and bangers)

I bought it on BandCamp (even though I have literally dozens of copies of this album strewn about my hard drives, from various stages of completion) purely so I could leave a comment

Played 2 Gigs last weekend and had a blast. It's not that often that you get approached by the sound guy with "Hey, I pulled your volume up during the gig, your sounded great!" 😹

raichoo,
@raichoo@chaos.social avatar

Former co-worker told me "Holy f**k, first I thought I didn't hear you but during your solo I realized you provided the entire bottom end and the guitars were merely tweeters" 😹 That's basically my job description baby!

I am very sad. I've lugged my everywhere in my Gator Transit case since 2018, but one shoulder strap abruptly gave up the ghost last night, fortunately in such a way that the bass didn't fall far.

a sad grey bass guitar gig bag with a shoulder strap lying despondently on the ground and a handle similarly dangling sadly.

Real talk from the
player:

This may not be your cup of tea. (This isn't actually even really my kind of metal.)

The messages about the hypocrisy of organized religion and dissociation of self may not resonate--they might even freak you out a bit. (Same here.)

But there is somebody in your sphere who could really stand to hear this, whether because it's their jam or because the message is one they need to hear

Please help us find those people.

Fender's new Made in Japan Deluxe Jazz Bass V Artist Model, available exclusively at the Tokyo Flagship Store in Black or Vintage Blonde for 231,000 JPY, is the first appearance of the small body Jazz Bass V design since the 2009 American Deluxe Jazz Bass V. It is the only Fender instrument I consider truly beautiful, and originated with the 1990 US Plus Series Jazz Bass Plus V, Fender's first ever modern 5-string .

Community club acoustic jam night was pretty light tonight so I ended up getting to play a lot of guitar (not my normal thing) instead of cajon (also not my normal thing, except on acoustic jam nights)

Lots of fun doing something I'm not as good at. This is how I get better.

But I'm also looking forward to Thursday, regular jam night, where I'll get to take on some of the week's frustrations with therapy

I’ll eventually get around to distributing Salvation to BIG STREAMING but we are gonna ride the FairCamp train for quite a while yet.

From our song, “Unspeakable”:

“The violence
The silence
It’s all so unspeakable
The cowardice
The lies let slip
It’s all so unspeakable
The bloodshed
The ground, red
It’s all so unspeakable
The muffled cries
The faithless die
It’s all so unspeakable”

I think this is probably the one track where I am most doing what metal players are "supposed" to do and following along with the guitar line, at least during the verse and chorus.

(I guess it kind of goes off the rails a bit during the bridge/solo part.)

I apologize for spamming you about the "Salvation" album, but we have been working on this a very long time and I'm very proud of my work on it.

But also it will get worse once I start talking in nauseating detail about interesting things from every individual track

so I won't be offended--even if I knew, which I won't--if you mute me for a while

I probably would

3.) Player Mustang bass. Holy god I love this thing. Like I said, I played bass for ages, but this was my first short scale, and I'm never going back. So much more comfortable, so much more low end snarl. Just a super versatile instrument. Only mod is the sticker.
