@WelshAdventurer asks about cycles that may help somebody with a mobility disability get exercise and get around:
Q6. My partner is disabled and can’t walk far due to problems with her foot and back. She is getting frustrated with not being able to exercise and get out of the house. She is looking at getting an electric bike. Does anyone have experience of them? Particularly of using them with a mobility disability? We are in the UK.
@sam asks about new projects and how they affect how you move:
Q4. What bicycle related projects are you excited about that your local municipality is building or planning? How will it change your biking or driving habits?
A3: I've bought a couple of non petroleum/plant based (?) lubes and I haven't been crazy about them, but they work. They get kind of gummy and thick, but I'm also using the wet conditions instead of the dry, my mistake.
I don't have to love it, just trying to use the least poisonous thing I can.
Q2.For people who keep track of trends: do you think the "new" 650b/27.5" size on road/gravel bikes will ever over take the more common 700c? It seems to be getting more popular, but maybe just because I wasn't looking at all for a while...
(And for those who don't know much about it, can you tell us why this new size has become a "thing"?)
A2: That seems odd since 650b/27.5 has been dying on MTB. I'm told it's kind of dead, but I don't know, I still use 26" wheels everywhere and probably always will.
Welcome to the March 29th BikeNite! Thanks for joining, and I hope we all enjoy chatting about cycle stuff! Feel free to answer whenever at your convenience. Anyone can join, now or later. Reply to what you like, and boost for visibility.
We'll start out with our introduction:
Q1. Where are you posting from today? If you feel comfortable sharing, tell us a little bit about what you do for a living, something else that you do that's non-cycle-related (hobbies, etc).
Q8. Can anyone recommend a "tool roll" bag to attach atop a rear rack? I have a Cycplus electric pump, spare tube, a multi-tool and tyre levers in my saddle bag, but I'd like to free up the seatpost by moving them into a rack-mounted bag. (See attached image.) I could put them in the pannier, but I ride without it from time to time, and don't want to end without tools when I need them.
(Also, anyone have any "tool roll" bag recommendations in general?)
In my teaching, the adult learn-to-ride classes are some of the most meaningful classes I've been a part of. @younata asks:
Q6. I have a few adult friends who don’t know how to ride a bike and would like to learn. They aren’t near me, so I can’t help them in person. What are the best ways for them to learn?
Q5. Are there any route mappers that are able to chain bike and bus trips? I was trying to route a trip using bike trails and buses with bike racks along Cape Cod and it wasn’t an easy task. (It also overestimates the time to ride along trails, making bike trips look a lot longer than they really are.)
Q4. Where are some of your favorite places you've biked other than where you live? I'm curious about both bike touring destinations, and non-bike focused travel that happened to include some good riding.
Q3. I've been listening to lots of @TheWarOnCars and Bike Talk episodes and, while great, I suspect that strategies and infrastructure goals of smaller population areas won't be the same as LA or NY.
I live in Jackson County OR, total population ~225k, largest population towns in the county are Medford at ~85k and Ashland at ~22k, other towns 10k - 2k.
What are the best examples to look at for really stellar active transport systems at this scale?

Q1. Where are you posting from today? What does the change in season mean for you with respect to cycling?
@VirginiaHolloway@clive To be clear, if you want to add questions to the hashtag-bikenite (friday after work), The process is to ask your question be included, and add the tag #BikeNiteQ before Wed night, where @ascentale will work with you to get your question posed to the group.
Q8a. I'm looking for a mirror for my commuter bike. It's got a dropbar, so I assume it has to be a barend mirror. Any recommendations? Being all thumbs, I'd like it to be easily installable.
Q8b. What is the best mirror style for an upright bike? I use a bar-end mirror on my recumbent bike, but I’m not sure the viewing angle would be great on my new e-bike. Helmet/eyeglass mirror instead?
Last #BikeNite was on Int'l Womens Day and @mmb asks:
Q5. Have you seen urbanism YouTube videos created by women +/or include a framework of racism/ableism? Urbanism as in exploring all active & public transport, incl. cycling & land uses that foster vibrant livable cities.
(Paraphrase due to char limit: Many accounts appear white&male with few exceptions. Are there any other YouTube accounts that can broaden the conversation?)
Q2. Does anyone have examples of a bicycle that they've built a rain-cover for (for the rider preferably, but if you've built one for your kids in a cargo bike bucket I'd be curious about that too)? Not something you can buy, something you built. Thanks!
