Addresses in a Craft Commerce 4 migration... wow these need better docs. Support ended up having me pull up the example template for the demo site and that finally helped.

Docs had bits n' pieces in different places and it's a where's Wally of frustrating. The template had a more complete picture of what needed to go into a frontend form.

Will be writing a blog post guide for future updates, it's not terrible if you have top level info and some syntax guidance.

I dread the very idea of upgrading Commerce, tbh. Mostly because the docs don't instil me with confidence. It's a more complex and more important-not-to-fuck-up thing than Craft itself, and yet it has always felt somewhat neglected.

I love for its stable deploy process (project config in git). But I haven't found a quick way for setting up & deploying hobby projects yet on small VPS. Same with other CMS / frameworks.

Laravel Forge or ploi are great helpers, but with extra costs.💰 But ...1/

mandrasch,

Would be a dream if I could just deploy hobby projects by selecting my repository from GitHub (like on Vercels interface) 🥰

@mandrasch maybe @platformsh can work for you?

Are you complying with Gmail & Yahoo’s email sending requirements that came into effect earlier this year? If you send email campaigns (or any bulk email) then you absolutely should be!
https://putyourlightson.com/articles/complying-with-gmail-yahoos-email-sending-requirements

bencroker,

Back-ported this to version 1.26.0 for Craft 3, since apparently some sites need more time to get onto Craft 4.

mattwilcox,
@mattwilcox@mstdn.social avatar

@bencroker Appreciate that, thanks.

As an aside: many of those still on 3 won't upgrade at all. They'll live on until they die out from some other cause - then get replaced with a whole new thing. I'm sure we have more than a few clients in that category, still. Tho we are also updating some from 3 to 4 currently.

I've been doing more Craft CMS 5 testing of my plugins this weekend and re-used a little trick I came up with when I made the jump from Craft 3 to Craft 4.

I wrote about how you can use the Guide plugin and Craft UI Elements to test out custom fields in your plugins and modules. Hope this comes in handy to other devs out there!

@wbrowar should be an interesting read tomorrow, thanks. Quck aside; the scroll perf for that page on Firefox is dreadful. Lags badly, and jitters on my M1 air.

Great when I can find vendors that support the fediverse. Here's an SSO plugin from @verbb for @craftcms that allows you to authenticate with Mastodon.

Also, I had no idea @craftcms had started their own instance here. Welcome!

Learned about @dokku in discord while asking about . Also saw .

Guess the cool thing about coolify is that it aims to be an open source indie alternative for Vercel & co: You just connect your GitHub repo and go on from there. 1/

mandrasch,

So I'm currently undecided between investing in ploi basic + 1 hetzner VPS (146,4€/year) or try to figure out an easy workflow with coolify (or dokku, etc.).

How do you host your demo and hobby projects nowadays? 🤗 4/4

@mandrasch If your main feature-wish is auto-deployment, check out DeployHQ. It's cheap and you can easily pair it with cheap shared hosting.

Discussed my current painpoints with a bit in Craft Discord. Coming from a Components perspective, the Developer Experience is just not as good currently. Things take much more effort to set up, you need to understand Includes vs. Embeds vs. Macros. This is a general PHP CMS challenge of course. 🤷 On the other hand: You get SSR easily without wild cloud setups in PHP 😉 🤓

Posted about components here if: https://github.com/twigphp/Twig/issues/3951#issuecomment-1970764587

mandrasch,

Got a nice reply on Discord by Andrew Welch

> „Twig isn't great for components currently, but they hopefully will be addressing some of that in Twig 4.“

Fingers crossed! 🤞

How many years 'till this dream will be reality? 🤓

"it would be great if twig had an up-to-date formatter (maybe with a prettier plugin maintained by core team)"

Last major content modeling feature for Craft 5 just dropped: inline field creation/editing within field layout designers.

It’s now possible to create a section, entry types, and custom fields all in the same workflow. No more bouncing all over the control panel 🎉

https://github.com/craftcms/cms/pull/14260

Several overlapping slideouts, editing an entry type, custom field, and nested entry type all at once

Is there a modern "fun" way of building REST APIs in with ()? 🤓

I currently work with controller actions, models (craft / yii2) and swagger-php - and writing all of these comments and model properties seems to be a bit repetitive? Or is this just the way it is?
