Addresses in a Craft Commerce 4 migration... wow these need better docs. Support ended up having me pull up the example template for the demo site and that finally helped.

Docs had bits n' pieces in different places and it's a where's Wally of frustrating. The template had a more complete picture of what needed to go into a frontend form.

Will be writing a blog post guide for future updates, it's not terrible if you have top level info and some syntax guidance.

    @ramsey @tim @chris I'm a and agency founder whose never been forced to build on wordpress to get work. PHP isn't going anywhere and IMO isn't in any danger of impact from a mass exodus from Wordpress.

    There's this odd bubble with WP where if you're inside of it, things seem to revolve around it.

    Other strong options include Craft CMS, Laravel Projects, Statamic, Kirby, October, ... I've never heard of Ghost til this thread.

    @ramsey tech roles hit a bubble pop once the pandemic online demand fell. Too many places scaled up with all the work but didn't plan ahead to the return to in-person.

    We had a rough time last year with most of our clients losing their marketing / site budgets with the recession taking effect. Didn't matter what tech stack.

    It's coming back around now, but only recently. Have heart! Also - Cantilever Agency put out an ad for a remote web dev and they do PHP. 🤞🏻🖤

    @cory got it, sounds like I'll have to add an EU registered device to our web dev roster and have it on WiFi only.

    Honestly... it's not exactly anything new that's spurred the realisation that React is overcomplicated for what it tries to do. Glad the light is being found, but yikes that was a long time coming.

    "React suggests using a framework to start a project, suggesting to use one of the three main open source frameworks, instead of just React." This itself isn't surprising, as React suffers from the same issues as Framework mania.

    Camembert is an endangered species! It relies on a mold that had lost the ability to reproduce sexually... and now, thanks to inbreeding, this mold has also lost the ability to reproduce using spores. Roquefort is also in trouble, but for Camembert it's worse:

    "The world over, this other symbol of French gastronomy is inoculated exclusively with one single strain of Penicillium camemberti, a white mutant that was selected for Brie cheeses in 1898 and Camemberts in 1902.

    The problem is that ever since then the strain has been replicated by vegetative propagation only. Until the 1950s, Camemberts still had grey, green or in some cases orange-tinged moulds on their surface. But the industry was not fond of these colours, considering them unappealing, and staked everything on the albino strain of P. camemberti, which is completely white and moreover has a silky texture. This is how Camembert acquired its now-characteristic pure white rind.

    Year after year, generation after generation, the albino strain of P. camemberti, which was already incapable of sexual reproduction, lost its ability to produce asexual spores. As a result it is now very difficult for the entire industry to obtain enough P. camemberti spores to inoculate their production of the famous Norman cheese.

    Worse still, while the Roquefort PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) standard retains a degree of microbial biodiversity, the PDO specifications for Camembert require farmers and other producers to use P. camemberti exclusively."

    What to do about it? Switch to eating American cheese, or Velveeta? Read on....

    Just discovered that when your web page title contains the same text as the URL, and has a pipe “|” or similar separator between that text and other text, Safari (desktop & mobile) will remove the matching text from the title and just show the other text when the page is shared.

    Will try to get a little blog post about it up soon for posterity and others trying to figure out what’s going on.

    @mez Really interesting find, looking forward to the article!

    The clear message I am getting from Bluesky is that black people felt unsafe on mastodon. Black Twitter was a huge part of what made it special, and it's been notably absent on mastodon. I will be sad if mastodon loses to a less-open alternative because it couldn't figure out how to be welcoming to everyone.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @damonoutlaw @kerim @seldo @StevenBarnhart @mekkaokereke this screenshot outlines that bluesky is allowing hate groups and letting you just hide them. So much of the horrible shit that happens and people with privilege can just hide it and pretend it doesn't exist... that's deeply disturbing as a choice.

    I appreciate the share - it tells me bluesky is definitely not the twitter alternative I want either.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @damonoutlaw @kerim @seldo @StevenBarnhart @mekkaokereke ya, it's definitely a great feature to fine tune control the feed. I like that, I just don't know what the right solution is going to be. Mastodon and bluesky are the same approaches of ignore/block. And moderation is limited or nil in either. It's frustrating.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @damonoutlaw @kerim @seldo @StevenBarnhart @mekkaokereke Maybe a platform could allow flagging content and actually visually display that the post was flagged beyond X threshold as being racist, harmful, misinformation etc. sort of like twitters "potential misinformation" warning but community driven.

    More tools to call it out without exhaustively arguing might be a good middle ground to go alongside blocking.

    nickcolley, (edited ) to accessibility

    I'm looking for a Senior Frontend Developer / UX Engineer role somewhere people are put first.

    I have over 7 years of experience working in the public and private sector.

    Specialisms include accessibility and design system architecture (of note I helped ship the GOV.UK Design System).

    I'm passionate about building interfaces that work for real people.

    I'm at my best when I'm able to influence design and solve problems.

    I am London based but looking for remote friendly or hybrid working, so anywhere works!

    Please boost for reach :) :boost_ok:

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @nickcolley right, but this time it's to get your job post in front of more people. Folks following that tag are on the same team here. Best of luck.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @nickcolley I have no idea why you're offended and hostile at me. I own a web dev agency and was just interacting to get you engagement for finding a job in your space.

    I suggested an overlapping tag based on your post saying you'd appreciate hearing more you could use. Using tags that hiring personnel follow is not a bad tip.

    I certainly hope you aren't this hostile to others with hiring, referral, and networking power.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @nickcolley I genuinely wasn't talking down to you. I'm also neurodivergent, being alerted that my tone is hostile isn't something that's meant to pick at anyone, it's to communicate what is being heard.

    I really do not understand your need to be angry with me, but I'm going to walk away now.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @nickcolley you said because your accessibility philosophies went beyond a narrow tech scope. I was just continuing the conversation by saying that the hiring people include that tech space, and it might help on this particular topic.

    It wasn't meant to be condescending, it was meant to be a discussion and a thought to consider. Sorry.

    cherrykoda,
    @cherrykoda@mas.to avatar

    @nickcolley I appreciate that, I had no idea from our brief conversation. I genuinely wish you the best of luck.
