I made two interactive sketches this week based on black and white op-art works from the 1960s by Bridget Riley. I tried to make them accurate and efficient, and see how they could be transformed. An untitled work known as "Winged Curves" gave me a lot of trouble, but it turned out really well, and has a nice 3D effect. Today I had an easier time recreating a work titled "Opening", though it was still a decent challenge.

Winged Curves, morphed to have sharp angles through changing the Bezier curve control point locations, and to have different proportions
Same as previous but with alternating colors on grey background instead of black and white.

Gotta try to see if I can figure out how to get hashtags from Mastodon to automatically show up in here

I think I got it! Just need to wait for the federated posts to start showing up! I chose , , , and to start with. If you have any other suggestions let me know and I'll add them in!

just made a community for reddit style posts on kbin!

https://kbin.social/m/genart

welcome ofc

Edit: also just lemme know if you want to help moderate! I have little experience managing a community and am not the best person for the job, I just wanted somewhere to post full-size genart gifs

@aebrer@genart.social avatar

alright! I figured out how to add tags to the magazine! Now, any post (from the whole fediverse, including mastodon) tagged with these hashtags will show up in the microblogs section of the magazine:

I was trying to work on some last night, but I wanted more control over noise generation than what I could find in the @py5coding libraries. So I wrote my own simple code to give me control over Open Simplex octaves, frequency, and persistence (after I learned what all those are) Same open simplex seed on all of these, just different variations of the other values on each

Code: https://codeberg.org/TomLarrow/creative-coding-experiments/src/branch/main/x_0072

The blobs a bit more cloudiness to them as other details appear. This is 12 octaves, with 0.3 persistence
A far more cloudy pattern. This is 12 octaves with 0.65 persistence and 2 frequency
A very splotchy black and white noise pattern. This is 12 octaves, 0.65 persistence and 4 frequency

It took me a long time to get this all written up to publish on @medium, but I've finally published it!

It includes images and brief discussions of my thought process while working on this year's creative coding prompts.

I left out most of the math, and focused more on how the ideas evolved.

Needed a palette cleanser after today so I finished up the sketch I've been picking at the past couple of weeks. It's kind of a mashup of a lot of my previous sketches in

Generated masked circles filled with random grayscale lines, placed them on the screen based on Poisson disc sampling and then colored them based on open simplex noise

Had been so busy I forgot to enjoy coding for a while. I needed this

circles filled with stripes that overlap and overlay each other. These seem to radiate from the lower left where it is a dark blue, which gradually blends to pink, tan, and then back to pink
circles filled with stripes that overlap and overlay each other. A deep red in the lower left is surrounded by red, with yellow to the upper right, which eventually goes to back to red
circles filled with stripes that overlap and overlay each other. This one is full of earth tones, with a T shaped of dark brown surrounded by tans and browns

It's the most wonderful time of the year: ! I love using floppy disks as a medium to plot on as well as a subject of my pen plots.

Here's a selection of 5.25" floppy disk plots available in my shop =)

https://shop.paulrickards.com/floppy/

A portrait orientation of a 3 x 4 grid of 5.25" floppy disks shaded in a CMY rainbow scheme with the density of the shading darker at the top and lightening towards the bottom.
A on top of a 5.25" black floppy disk of a vanishing point grid drawn in thick gold ink.
A picture of a in action drawing on a white 5.25" floppy disk an abstract asteroid made up of triangles that is being disintegrated by a small triangular ship drawn in the left corner that is reminiscent of Asteroids the video game.
