Don't know how much it gets used, but I think the #Brandmeister#DMR#SMS messaging system is down.
Messages to #APRS (310999) don't go through. Messages to N4DVM (262995) get stored in the system, but her DMR radio is logged on and should be receiving messages, but don't.
Can anybody else confirm this, or am I doing something wrong here? (just learned how to do it this weekend- getting some practice in).
I got a duplex one, so dad can take one time slot for his QSOs, and I can take the other. Antennas are resonant around 433, and I do believe 433/438 are generally within the hotspot range, so I'll add a random offset around there just to make sure I don't conflict with anyone nearby.
Apparently like 3 days ago I received a package and never really noticed
So I open it and this is what I'm greeted with. Someone just randomly sent me a DMR HT with handwritten note saying that they saw my QRZ page where I mentioned that I wanted to get to DMR but didn't have the spare cash to invest in it, realized they had this that had a broken battery clip that had been sitting on the shelf gathering dust, and boxed it up.
They knew that a piece of plastic and the retaining spring had broken off inside of the battery clip, but could not tell where they went. I could see it almost immediately, and I'm waiting for the glue to dry right now.
Furthermore, the letter wasn't signed with anything identifying, so I don't even know who to thank.
Assuming my glue fix works correctly, the programming cable should arrive tomorrow.
Dear Hamradio community, now it's in a working state. May I present: An Ansible Role for managing MMDVMHost on your Raspberry Pi hotspot.
If you ever wanted to manage your hotspot the automation way, I got you covered. Ansible is an automation/orchestration tool to roll out and configure software and systems remotely.
With ansible-mmdvm you can set up a hotspot from a second compute (or local) on your Raspberry. Update and roll out configuration changes. It doesn't feature DMRGateway so far, that's next on the list. Please note, this is a very early release that may have rough edges.
Dear hamradio YL and OM - please boost this for more reach so that we can build a reliable and open-sourced way to run our Raspberry MMDVM based hotspots or repeater.
If you ever wanted to know what's going on in your talkgroups on your local hotspot, I've you covered. Right now it's in the state of "working for me" and requires some more documentation :) But here is how it looks like. It uses Munin for monitoring - yes, I already older and like #perl
Ok, I fixed DMR in my head. What's left? A secret guide to DMR and a sane way to program a codeplug for #anytone using #qdmr. But what's now and what to do with it? A guide? An ebook? A video tutorial series? German or English. Anyone with any comments? Is the actually useful for someone? #dmr#hamradio#ebook
Do any of you amateur #radio nerds use an #MMDVM? I just got one and am setting it up, but I don't want to use #PiStar because it doesn't have an explicit open source license, and was last built on Debian 10 (oldoldstable).
So I'm trying to find sufficient documentation to do things manually, if at all possible. I may end up just doing a big write-up myself once I work it out, but if others have done similar things, it could save me some time. #DMR#HAMRadio#HotSpot
Do you think we've had enough closed, irreproducible, proprietary digital modes contaminating the #hamradio hobby (#ROS, #VARA, #DMR, #YSF, #DSTAR, etc.)? Well, now we've got #LORA for #APRS.
No: ham radio should be based on open, free standards. There are plenty of free, open, well documented digital modes (#FT8, #JS9, #WSPR, #M17, #PSK, #Olivia, #RTTY) in addition to the oldest-ever digital mode (#CW). Please support ways of operation everyone can inspect, modify, or build a radio around.
Inspired by @ariadne I asked #ChatGPT to rewrite my Mastodon bio in the style of an angry Donald Trump tweet:
"Can you believe this FAKE NEWS "cybersecurity nerd" leftist? Total disaster! Can't even make it as a YouTuber, SAD! And what's with this "non-binary" and "2nd string Disney Princess" nonsense? NO THANK YOU. Don't be fooled, folks. This loser runs some kind of roleplaying thing on Mastodon - PATHETIC. And don't get me started on this #DMR 3191220 business. Who cares?! FAKE NEWS all around. #Sad#FailedYouTuber#NonBinaryNonsense#MakeDisneyGreatAgain"
More experiments with the SA868: The module is transmitting #DMR generated by a custom #MMDVM connected to the BrandMeister network and successfully demodulated by a portable Motorola DMR radio. #amateurfunk#hamradio
For anyone following along with the SA868 adventures, I recently published sa8x8-fw, an open firmware replacement supporting advanced digital modes.
This firmware enables register level access to the integrated RDA1864S transceiver making it possible to sufficiently transmit and receive 4-FSK as used by protocols like DMR and M17.
