My kids are playing #gcompris' geography activity, and it occurred to me, a language nerd, that it would be awesome if we could collect the countries' names pronounced by someone local, and use those sounds for a similar activity. Of course, it's so out of this world, that I'm not gonna open an issue in their issue tracker. At best, I could start collecting them, and only open the issue when I have them all, right?
#Gcompris is a great educational tool for kids. Our 4 year old daughter is used to touch screens and I just couldn't find a way to teach her how to use the mouse. Gcompris managed to do it in 30 minutes.
She is also learning letters, basic math, etc. in the process.
Updated our port for #GCompris to version 4.0 today for #HaikuOS, GCompris is a high quality educational software suite comprising of numerous activities for children aged 2 to 10 from the #KDE community.

Would you know how to address the Lusophone community on the Fediverse?
I've been teaching "computers" in a primary school in the Dakar suburbs (cf https://librefaso.pollux.casa/sjbm2023.gmi ) and six of my pupils are from a Bissau-Guinean family.
They're struggling at school due to them not mastering neither the local language nor the teaching language (French) but they're highly motivated.
I noticed that many kids (and not only the brightests) were very interested in the small snippets of encyclopedia which are presented by some #Gcompris activities, so the hoard of offline treasures that #Emmabuntus offer should be very useful to them...
Toujours #teamprof ou autres : à partir de lundi je vais peut-être improviser des cours (ou pour être plus honnête, des animations) informatiques pour une école primaire de la banlieue dakaroise.
C'est probablement la seule chance qu'auront ces gamins d'avoir une pédagogie non-descendante en la matière.
J'ai quelques idées d'activité mais aussi plein de doutes...
Il y a des expériences préalables bien documentées qui pourraient m'aider ?
Vu que les gosses, comme je le disais, se voient toute l'année imposer une pédagogie descendante, j'ai l'intention de beaucoup passer par le jeu (avant de faire du Scratch pour les plus motivés si j'ai le temps).
Je vais commencer par du #Gcompris, mais ensuite ?
Pour les plus grands je passe vite aux jeux de stratégie, mais en primaire ça me paraît tôt.
Et je ne maîtrise pas assez #Minetest pour pouvoir les y mettre maintenant.
🤔 In #gcompris auf meinem #mobian Gerät werden die Hintergrundbilder nicht angezeigt. Ich hatte das Problem schon mal und dies wurde dann auch in 3.1-3 gefixed. Allerdings habe ich auf meinem #Smartphone jetzt die 3.3-1 laufen.
Problem war in 3.1 die fehlende qt5-image-formats-plugins. Die sind jetzt aber da,... jedoch keine Bilder. 🤔
Mal gucken was auf einem frischen #Trixie passiert,....
