Now I can’t donate again for a longer period, but I guess the logic is economic: “a unit in hand today is worth more than the promise of a unit later.”

I'm off to give blood for the first time ever shortly. I lived in the UK in 1986 and I've never been able to donate until now.
I am trying not to think too hard about it. I hope it's something I will be able to do regularly from now on.

I’m not a boastful or bragging type, so I hope this doesn’t come across that way.

Been to give blood today. Being in the UK we don’t get paid for it, nor would I accept money anyway.

Glad to be able to help others by doing so and would encourage anyone who is on the fence about doing so to try.

It’s not a fun outing (other than the post donation chocolate) but it is one that if you’re able to make a big difference to others.
