A security vulnerability in the Wemo Smart Plug Mini V2 could allow hackers to take control of the device, but Belkin has said it will not be fixed because the device is at the end of its life.

I'm very happy to share with you all my latest research along with my awesome team mate Reuven Yakar. Reuven and I found a critical vulnerability in the popular Wemo smart electrical socket by Belkin. This research had all the fun stuff - software AND hardware hacking and reverse engineering and I'm super excited to finally be able to share it. Note that Belkin WILL NOT be releasing a patch to this vulnerability:

What a week! I found this awesome open source software that let's me connect and stream almost ANY camera to ANY Smart Home Hub. No more vendor lock! It's called Scrypted and it's awesome!

Check it out!👉https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x1xsFRQYSv0

@neil I broke my 4G Pi4 a few months ago but I've found out that my older Pi3 does the same job of running my house so I'm not going to buy one and I'll save myself £65 :)

「 One of the important factors in embedded development is that one has limited access to the environment a program runs in, which makes debugging more cumbersome, and errors can often be irrecoverable. Not to mention fatal, in the case of many micro-controllers in charge of hardware that can potentially kill. This explains why some additional steps are taken to improve program correctness, even at the cost of ergonomics in some cases 」

I've given up on individual ecosystems. They all seem broken. So unless a 'smart' thing is tagged as all three of "Works with Alexa," "Works with Google Home," and "Works with Apple HomeKit," then I don't buy it. There are some things that work with all three! At home, my automation is done using iOS and HomeKit, and my voice commands are via Alexa. https://www.androidauthority.com/google-smart-home-3319869/

Typically, I set the thermostat so it's nice and cool while I sleep. And in the morning, as I doom scroll, I'll ask my devices to increase the temperature to warm up the house. The thermostat app was undergoing maintenance this morning so I had to physically get out of bed and go downstairs to turn on the heat. Talk about a first world problem!

We had our inaugural Internet of Things course where students had the opportunity to present some really neat projects using Raspberry Pis and ESP8266 boards. Projects included a soil sensing system, a smart doorbell camera, a backup camera for a car, and a smart mailbox system. Very cool to see what students created!

    I can see this point.

However, I can see a temporary replacement for this, too: the myriads of input from the combined with the parallel instant knowledge capabilities described earlier and the use of advanced mathematical models (regression etc.) to fill in the gaps.
