In case anyone else ever has some fun with and / on :linux:

By default the FORWARD table drops all packages...
To get vm's back on the net simply leverage to make the packets flow again:

$ sudo iptables -A FORWARD -i br0 -o br0 -j ACCEPT

You can install iptables-persistent to save the current ruleset so it is applied every time you restart the system. 😉

Did that on my workstation... I always fall for it. 😂

Cannot seem to mount linux host share on Windows guest. suggests that I need on the guest to have spice-webdav installed. Have not been able to figure that out.

In the meantime, the web suggests that I need Virtual Machine Manager installed, but when I do that, it says I need libvirtd, and every set of instructions for has not worked. apt cannot find it. 😡 Even instructions from Sept 2023 for Ubuntu 22.04 don’t work.

How to install VM on using and and the (hypervisor framework):

virt-install --name silverblue \
--boot uefi \
--os-variant silverblue37 \
--memory 8192 \
--disk size=20 \
--graphics vnc \
--virt-type hvf \
--cpu host,match=exact,mode=custom \
--xml ./cpu/model=host \
--xml xpath.delete=./devices/channel \
--cdrom path/to/silverblue.iso

Then connect to localhost using your preferred VNC viewer. Weirdly though, I cannot enter anything in the post-installer name selection, not even using the on-screen keyboard, except for emojis...

Finally started doing some bullseye to bookworm upgrades, first glitch is php-geoip's having disappeared (removed because of missing support for PHP 8). Will need to investigate what to do for #matomo

Next (minor so far) annoyance in LXC guests:

ps -hu

root 99 0.0ps: Unable to get total memory

so I suppose I'll have to dig into #libvirt/#lxc settings and learn more about cgroups etc.

Decisions that didn't age well (oVirt dropping Fedora support to focus specifically on RHEL). Red Hat dropped general commercial support for oVirt (RHV) last year and has removed SPICE from .

Other random question. Aside from $$$$$$ RHEL tooling for things like OpenShift (and its add-ons), is there a good app/util for backing up KVM VMs? or is rsync'ing the QCOW files to a backup destination as good as it gets? @vwbusguy @major (et. al.)
