Of all the comings-out we have to do as trans folks, telling our parents is one of the very hardest. What it even means to be trans has changed so much that it can be incredibly hard to even get them to understand what your gender is.

Today I was almost denied access to my bank account at the bank.
The teller looked at me, then my profile, which says Mrs. [Very Masc Deadname] [Lastname] and said "who's account is this?" with the -very- skeptic look of like 'who's account are you accessing'? So my first thought was: 'oh no, I have to explain I'm transgender'.
But no.
The issue I was not prepared for was that she looked at me, mask off, and thought 'how does this teenager have access to a near 30 year olds account? Is this your parents?'. I had to ID myself at the counter for her to go "you look too young to be almost thirty!".
So it wasn't that I didn't pass, it was that I looked too young. I've aged backwards to getting IDed again.
While some of us knew from a very, very young age that we were trans, a whole lot of us... well, we didn't. We thought that the way things were for us was normal.
And then, one day, maybe all of a sudden, maybe after a long time exploring ourselves, we said the magic words: "Oh, s#!t, I think I'm not cis."
