An older acquaintance of mine died last month, after a long and fruitful life. She was, imo, a ‘saint’ of a human being; so I thought I’d share her loving #Obit here for all to see. In my part of #SouthernOregon Joyce Hailicka was a legend, the queen of Butte Falls, OR - a small rural town nestled in the Cascade Mountains. Joyce was responsible for just about everything good that happened in that town for the decades she lived there with her husband Ron. But she didn’t stop there, no… she spearheaded county, regional and state programs that yielded real results. Her presence and impact were immense and she will be missed. #RIP#ButteFalls#JacksonCounty#Oregon
“One day in 1979, while logged in to San Diego State University’s principal computer from his home, #VernorVinge found himself chatting to another user via the #TALK program, both using implausible names and trying to figure out each other’s true name. “Afterwards, I realised that I had just lived a #ScienceFiction story – at least by the standards of my childhood,””
"Bob Edwards, who died Feb. 10 at 76, stayed at 'Morning Edition' for nearly a quarter century and became as much a part of the begin-the-day rhythms for NPR listeners as coffee, commutes and getting the kids off to school. Then in 2004, a decision by #NPR to pull Mr. Edwards from the show touched off an avalanche of complaints from his fans that even included statements on the Senate floor." #GiftArticle https://wapo.st/3SZm3J6

"The internationally acclaimed maestro, Seiji Ozawa, led the Boston Symphony Orchestra from 1973 to 2002, longer than any other conductor in the orchestra’s history.
“The third of the Kings’ four children, Dexter King was named for the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where his father served as a pastor when the Montgomery bus boycott launched him to national prominence in the wake of the 1955 arrest of Rosa Parks.
Idle Journalism Thought: All paid obits - and far too many papers do that these days - should be required to use the word "died" in place of some flowery phrase mean to avoid the awful truth.
Example: Passed away. Even worse: Passed peacefully from this life into the arms of his loving Savior.
Tina Turner, ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ whose triumphant career made her world-famous, dies at 83
"she was born Anna Mae Bullock in a segregated Tennessee hospital... Physically battered, emotionally devastated and financially ruined by her 20-year relationship with Ike Turner, she became a superstar on her own in her 40s, at a time when most of her peers were on their way down, and remained a top concert draw for years after" https://apnews.com/article/tina-turner-dead-a04311130e67459cbade34565eb80662
RIP Tina Turner, one of the best of the best. The Queen of Rock and Roll. No one like her on stage, she set the bar for a lot of the show-stopping female vocalists who followed her. That woman could rock like no other. I sense a very rhythmic disturbance in the force. #TinaTurner#TinaWeSaluteYou#obit#music#musician
