Great fun, #paddling & drumming in our first races! We did pretty good, considering we've had only 7 practices. We beat a more experienced team that has trained twice/week for a few years in our last race with time of 1:08 minutes!
I'm exhausted & bit sore. Putting ice packs on & then having a long hot bath 🛀
Odin and Oie are returning to service! Two beautiful Sonars, Odin and Oie, are former #Paralympic Class #sailboats that have a decorated history in #PacificNW#sailing competitions. After several years of sitting idle, they are being returned to service.
Heading out to our last #ParaDragonboating team practice of the month! Our first race is next Sunday, May 26th. I'll post more info about that, after this weekend.
1st dragonboat races, happening on May 26. I have to be on location all day, as when I'm not paddling in race, will be doing drum/beat calling for races I don't paddle in. I'm also doing several other volunteer duties on our first race day so would love to create a big #music playlist for the whole day!
Please drop some high energy songs to this open for #musicRecommendations for active water sports thread!
You can see how seating changes are done, while we are out on the waters. Everyone except the 2 people transferring, row by row, has to brace the dragonboat while these seat changes happen.
Selkirk Trestle, walking & cycling bridge - spans from Banfield Park to Selkirk waterway paths on other side of waterway.
Views from the dragonboat. From today's practice. I'm with new #ParaDragonboating pilot program, run by #FairwayGorgePaddlingClub on Jutland. Our team name: Storm the Gorge.
Good morning 🌄
Fantastic news to start this fab Friday with 😀
I got into a new para #dragonboating#PilotProgram. It's a 7-week program starting April 6, leading to the Super Sprints Festival May 26, on the Gorge waterway. Training with head coach of the Canadian Para Dragon Boat team.
Do you have any nifty ideas for what we can possibly use as our first para dragon boating team name? We have no team name ATM & need to submit one before our first race at end of May.
With so many breaking news stories these past few months, it's been a while since I've released any new community topics. But we're back! I've spent the last couple of weeks curating a topic space on Flipboard for the Disabled Community, where you can find all the latest content about, for, and by the differently-abled. It's been such an eye-opener discovering all the publishers, creators, and brands doing their thing in this space. You'll find them all in our new topic, along with subtopics for specific disabilities -- whether mental, intellectual, emotional, or physical -- and for all facets of the community, from disability rights to assistive technologies to parasports. While I was at it, I was also able to curate a couple of subtopics specifically for the deaf and blind communities, plus a bonus topic on Neurodiversity. Check them out below!
