Advocates in #Quebec say Twibanire's experience highlights a years-long problem for people in #wheelchairs when they try to access #mammograms.
A Quebec advocacy group, The Regroupement des activistes pour l'inclusion au Québec #RAPLIQ , recently contacted 94 clinics across the province that offer mammograms. The result, they said, was that 43 per cent advised they couldn't accommodate people who use wheelchairs.
2 photos taken today, by one of my regular #LittleFreeLibrary guests. From a friendly senior lady, who I met 3 years ago, when I first set up my LFL. She's been telling folks about it since the first time we met & visits my LFL at least once a week. I gift her flowers & random fun goodies for her 4 grandchildren, when I have extras available to share. I've made friends with a few of my regular LFL guests 🥰
Today was a wonderful day with helping out two Aunties & hanging out with my Mom. We are becoming best friends, slowly.
Mom took this photo of me, in our backyard, when we got home. We're sending lots of newer family photos overseas this month & this will be one of them.
Age 30. At Coquitlam Town Centre.
On one of my part work/part leisure trips to Vancouver. I signed 2 work contracts on that trip😊
Back when my hair was jet black & hung down to my thighs. I wore it in half/full up-dos or in messy buns often back then.
It's not me who has issues with how I walk with a limp. It's ableist shitheads who have issues with disabled people. Not my problem. It's their problem.
@WrenArcher Thanks! Got another painful tooth pulled. Waiting for frozen right side of my face to feel normal again.
The black shawl top is a gift from my Auntie Chan 🥰 I paired it with warm gray knit mockneck & my brown velour & plaid bellbottoms. Beaded jewelry was handmade by a local friend.
I had fun #paddling this afternoon. At Fairway Gorge Paddling Club - #FGPC’s #DragonBoat Open House on Jutland. I was the only disabled person who attended. Pics(except the panoramic one) are from my Mom.
Met my para-dragonboating coach, Katy & enjoyed some chats with her, at the open house. Met some support staff for the para-dragonboating pilot program too. We start the program next Saturday🙂🛶🌊
FYI - I have always been frustrated with mass #ableism in #Chinese & many other #Asian communities. I don't tolerate ableism by anyone & see it as a huge character flaw.
I believe it's very important for disabled Chinese & disabled Asians to stand up against ableism, when it happens. It's not OK to be an ableist & I am not very quiet about it.
@justafrog We appreciate whenever non-disabled folks stand up & speak out against ableism, when it happens in their presence.
We often have to stand up for ourselves, by ourselves - in most offline situations. More offline support & solidarity for #PeopleWithDisabilities would be greatly welcomed. We don't have much problems getting support online. We have ongoing problems getting support offline.
This is one of the most #accessible multiuse #UrbanParks in our city. Most trails are #WheelchairFriendly - only the narrower footpaths can't be accessed with a wheelchair. It's one of the parks I recommend to fellow #PeopleWithDisabilities who love getting out to enjoy nature & outdoors recreation.
Please, #ablebodied#privileged people think people like me should just 'work harder'. Ya think your fucking spoiled kids could deal with #disabilities without your fucking bloody money??? SAY THAT SHIT TO MY FACE.
We are capable! We are human beings! We deserve human rights! We will fight for ours!
The #WheeliePeeps are sick and tired of people taking their #parking spots. After commiserating, they decide to do what they do best – #RaiseHell! Things get heated when some unassuming government employees show up to work to find their parking lot has been overtaken by 100s of #wheelchairs.
The ground-breaking #CBC original #docuseries is back for a second season. Pulling back the veil on life as a #wheelchair user, PUSH once again takes audiences into the inner world of the #WheeliePeeps , an unlikely group of #friends bonded by their shared experience of life on wheels.
Ground Truth Solutions & Salma Consulting spoke w/almost 2,000 people across every province of Afghanistan to understand their views on the aid they need/receive. Quantitative/qualitative consultations sought to explore how ppl view #HumanitarianAssistance, how they'd like to participate in decisions around aid provision & how they cope when aid is unavailable.
Since 1995, Wang has helped in services for #PeopleWithDisabilities & organized activities including rehabilitation, education, training, employment service & financial assistance for them. He helped more than 6,000 people w/ visual impairment get out of poverty & become self-reliant through training.
Hand controls, according to #DisabilityRights Advocates, generally consist of a mechanism that allows drivers to accelerate and brake using one hand, and a “spinner knob” that allows for steering with the other hand.
Loveness, a member of the #DisabledWomensSupport Organisation, is one of a coalition of campaigners representing 20 organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) who had come together to launch #EqualZimbabwe. This campaign is calling on the government to create and implement new legislation that will guarantee #DisabilityRights in the country. There are estimated to be more than 1.4 million #PeopleWithDisabilities in #Zimbabwe
#AffordableHousing options that prioritize #PeopleWithDisabilities are limited and waitlists are long. Community Vision, an advocacy organization for Oregonians with disabilities, develops accessible units for residents in the #Portland metro area.
Despite introduction of #InclusiveEducation, the Montenegrin educational system doesn't provide #EqualOpportunities for education to everyone. Sofija Ivanović, a talented 1st yr student of the secondary school Gymnasium in Podgorica & Nikola Zekić, who holds a master’s degree in ethnomusicology, emphasize the #RightToEducation is a fundamental #HumanRight. However, their experience shows that realizing this right is a challenge for generations of #PeopleWithDisabilities.
