mima, to privacy

I've just done a bit more testing, since my friend emma in this Raddle thread was able to confirm in her own #Postmill instance (I've tested against #Raddle too because why not) that it's a caching reverse proxy causing images to stay longer on the server. I'm able to confirm that using a query string bypasses the proxy's cache and results in the expected 404. Hooray, and I couldn't expect any better from Raddle! :ai_yay: They always take #privacy seriously. :alice_wine:

I've used this method against #Mastodon, #Pleroma, and #Misskey. The first two still returns the image I've uploaded even though I've deleted my account AND used a query string to bypass proxy cache (yikes). Misskey forcibly rewrites the URL to strip out the query string, therefore I can't conclude for 100% sure that it's a proxy's fault. But I'm still pretty confident it is the reverse proxy's doing in the case of Misskey due to the observation I mentioned earlier where the generated file URLs that never got accessed don't get cached.

Alright I'm done with this shit, #fediverse devs, do whatever with this info with mind :seija_coffee:

#reverseproxy #fediversemeta

arda, to kbin

I'm planning to self-host a Reddit like instance for myself, but I'm between Lemmy and kbin . Essentially I want to host my own data, and jump into discussions from other communities.

With a limited search results, people praise for , and bash developers about their world and political views, however Lemmy is written with , and Kbin with .

I just want to migrate to what people will be using to.

So, which solution would you prefer?

airsay,

@arda note also that has its own baggage. Essentially, it is accused of pilfering code from without attribution. The developer has acknowledged that they used postmill code without attribution and has promised to fix this. I particularly like kbin and postmill and have been able to install postmill locally. Postmill isn’t part of the although kbin is.

airsay,

@cmdrmoto @arda so don’t get me wrong. I’m all in for Ernest and what he has done with . Love that he has it federated. And totally love his owning up when Emma made it an issue. I only mentioned it so that @arda doesn’t get “blindsided” if at some point that gets called out. I love both projects and and want to see both flourish

Okey dokey. So, I'm looking at viable to replace what was providing for me* & I'm currently at the initial information overload stage.

My current understanding is that Lemmy is associated with tankies & best avoided, but it's also the most developed option presently.

Kbin seems to me to be more of an upcoming star, but still lacks important features & an app.

What have been others' informed experiences?

airsay,

@SympathyTea @SleepyCatten There was a small tiff between the developers of and over non attributed code, kbin copying code without attribution. I like both as they have very similar UI.
