"The resulting polarization in state responses to COVID-19, a disease that claimed lives within days or weeks of exposure, created a macabre natural experiment in which the association between partisan policy choices and mortality outcomes could be examined."
Controlling for income and some other health risk factors diminished the excess mortality association and will require additional research. However, other studies have found the same correlation between the "pro-life" party and higher death rates.

Republicans don't actually care about the debt. If they did, they wouldn't have passed massive tax cuts for the rich. They are just using the current debt ceiling situation as an excuse to gut social programs that millions rely on.
