Now I'm wondering: is there a collection of contraptions and levels built for @principia to play with it around like in #TheIncredibleMachine? Sort of a #RubeGoldbergMachine, but with #DIY set to make more such levels, you know... :ablobcatwave:
The first 12 levels in Rube Works VR are based on original #RubeGoldberg cartoons from almost 100 years ago (licensed of course). I read reprints of them as a kid, but was blown away at how edgy and darkly funny he could be when I began work on this.
If you have not yet had the pleasure of watching this early Joseph Herscher #RubeGoldberg machine video, take a minute and watch it now. Brilliant and hilarious!
In 2021 we were invited to participate in a Hubraum/Deutsche Telekom program to kickstart some AR content for the Nreal Light (now Xreal). This is me presenting "Rube Works: The Official Rube Goldberg Invention Game" and how we're adapting it for AR/VR. #gamedev#ScreenshotSaturday#RubeGoldberg#RubeWorks#RubeWorksVR
#ScreenshotSaturday shows my decade old "Rube Works: The Official Rube Goldberg Invention Game", and the WIP VR version. Originally funded/published by Unity Games in 2013. New version for Meta Quest 2 and later uses hand tracking for a more immersive experience. #GameDev#RubeGoldberg 1/2
Today in Labor History July 4, 1883: Rube Goldberg, who worked hard to make simple things outrageously difficult, was born. He was a writer, engineer, sculptor and cartoonist. He won a Pulitzer for his political cartoons. Hired as an engineer to design San Francisco’s sewers in 1904, he quit after six months to become a cartoonist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
