Why don't city buses form loops at the end of their outward run from central transport hubs? That way, with almost the same resource use, people could bus between the neighbourhoods at the end of the lines. Without coming all the way in to central interchanges, or the orbiter services, which usually connect the suburbs halfway between the centre and the end of each line.
I find it very frustrating that information about public transport routes and stops in Aotearoa aren't easily available in apps that use OSM and other open geographical data (eg OSMAnd+), or the transport apps I can find in F-Droid (eg Transportr).
Also that public transport planners in Aotearoa aren't collaborating on a single app and website, as well as (or instead of) their region-specific ones.
Ich nutze es schon seit Jahren, hatte aber auch mal deren eigenes Repo hinzugefügt, weil zwischendurch beim FDroid-Repo relativ lange keine Updates kamen.
We're approaching the end of the #Railways and #OpenTransport devroom at #FOSDEM. Now in the stage is Mikolai from the #transportr app. Next up: Nils talking about heritage railways and a call to the software community.
Make sure to be there a few minutes earlier, the room is still fully crowded!
"The #FLOSS ecosystem for public transport is growing, but it would be great to unify some approaches" - #Transportr developer calls for more collaboration and contributions by the wider community!
With the news that Google is going to "supercharge" Maps with "AI" (and the poor results I've had with Apple Maps), I finally checked out OpenStreetMap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/
OMG THIS IS AMAZING. So much more useful detail! Incredible! Going to dig up an app for my phone and use this for a while to see how it compares to the ad- and AI-ridden nonsense.
What is your favourite #fdroid app? Would be interested if I can discover a few new cool apps, I missed until now. Thank you already for sharing! @fdroid
