#AppStream 1.0.3 is out 😄
It mostly consists of bugfixes and a bunch of additions to the validator to make it catch even more issues in advance. "Plasma Mobile" is also a recognized desktop-style now.

Vim Lands XDG Base Directory Specification Support | Phoronix

「 Rather than just dumping all configuration files / cache / data into the home directory folder, Vim can now respect the XDG Base Directory specification with regards to the directories such as for the XDG cache, configuration files, persistent data files, and state data files 」

It happened! Vim is now among the apps that have adopted the $XDG_CONFIG_HOME standard for storing user-specific configuration files. However, there are still many apps that use the older ~/.app convention or other specific locations for storing configuration files. Why is this the case?

Listen, I love . Bar none it's one of the best distros out there, but more than that it's been the stomping grounds for innovation. Don't believe me? You've got , , contributions to , to the Linux kernel proper, etc. Fedora is more than a distro, it's a of people who wish to push the envelope.

That's why I am for becoming the new workstation standard, because of the good it did . Let me explain...

As of yesterday, I am officially maintaining the XDG Specifications (yes, yes, I make questionable choices ^^).
This means, if there's anything I should have a look at, or if you want to propose any addition/change, you know who to ping now! (even better if a MR/patch is attached, of course)
Thanks to everyone working on Freedesktop integration and projects, you rock!

Does anyone know what might keep (re-)creating ~/.config/xdg-terminals.list and ~/.config/none+i3-xdg-terminals.list on my NixOS machine? They keep getting created whenever I log into my account, and I'm trying to get 100% of that directory to be managed by Home-Manager.

A Google search tells me that it's part of xdg-terminal-exec, but I don't have that enabled. Why would this be created automatically, and by what?

Version 1.2.0 of the xdg-utils is out! :drgn_box:

Please test it! (But don't deploy yet)

Thank you to everyone else who contributed and thanks to Simon for the trust and maintainer work! :drgn_heart:

We need more eyes on that code! :drgn_notice:

The xdg-utils are children of their time, shellscripts that by large don’t follow a “modern” scripting style …

… which means that there is a lot of work to catch up on and any changes should be reviewed by more people than they currently are.

**In case you want to help:**Just pick something that seems interesting and doable for you and open an issue/merge request.

Things that need to be done:

  • Read the code and try to find mistakes (Usage of external tools, escaping, …)
  • Find mistakes in open merge requests.
  • Review, research and fix issues.
  • Improve tests
  • Improve documentation
  • Rebase old merge requests
  • Improve Cygwin and MacOS support
  • etc.

Used this for the tune's cover, simply because I've had it. Probably gonna go with something less serene. Here's the original intent for the pixel art.

Is there any reason why all the "app/system directories" libraries never consider on ? I'm all fine with defaulting to "Application Support", but when I have explicitly set the $XDG_CONFIG_HOME for my shell, I also want the apps to make use of it. The same applies to Windows.

Fun fact: The XDG desktop portal for GNOME mobile is not adaptive, despite Nautilus being Adaptive (Nautilus is still not yet perfect on mobile but it's getting there)
