Installed home assistant on my arch nuc, installed a sonoff zigbee USB gateway, bought 4 zigbee lights (to replace the existing smart lights in my home) and got a zigbee motion sensor.

Integrated the lights (via home assistant) with homekit and google assistant, integrated all smart speakers, and wrote a very quick automation to turn on my living room light when the motion sensor next to my front door is activated.

idk why I waited so long to move to !

@AngryAnt nice, I've been told Ikea wireless solutions use and I could probably hook those up with a home assistant hub/ZigBee dongle.. didn't know about the blinds though, thanks!

If I don’t have running in is the hub a good option or should I just get a stick (if so which)? Some of the things I like about the hub option are the alarm, light, speaker etc.

Yes, the Ikea Trådfri (Zigbee) buttons are cheaper to buy than the Sonoff.
But they chew through their CR2032 batteries like mad 😭
I have even created node-red code to trap their join (after battery replacement) to update their ShortAddr based on the IEEEAddr.

Meanwhile all the Sonoff buttons and door contacts are still on their factory batteries

Valon_Blue, to homeassistant

Anybody else having trouble with their WiFi lights lately? They were working fine-ish for a long time and suddenly and are asking if I have the correct local key. (I do, I confirmed it) They respond fine in the Tuya app, but Home Assistant can't connect.

This is one more reason I'm gradually moving to all local only and ditching Tuya.

Valon_Blue,

@Ben Hmm. Maybe I'll look into that as a temporary fix. I had heard of it, but haven't attempted to make the switch.

Yeah, it's a bummer to encounter issues like this, but it's my own fault ultimately. That's what I get for getting a cheap product. Think I'm going to go with for the replacements. I have some ZigBee bulbs and, other than a temporary issue and some routing problems, they've been much more stable. At the moment, they're just too expensive though.

Oh irony! Ever since I moved to a new flat, completely devoid of any automation, my automation server keeps telling me to check on all these sensors I should have scattered around. Can't fault it.. works as intended. Monitor your devices this way too!

Hi fedi!

Do you have any recommendations on an smart door lock which can be controlled using (with or ) or in general?

It should be able to be fitted inside my current door (euro lock), should have a fallback with a physical key, look halfway decent and should not rely on cloud services.

For me it would be enough if Home Assistant is able to lock it/unlock it and maybe show the state of the battery.

Thanks!

New Open Source Hardware board with ESP32-C6 offers WiFi6, Bluetooth5(LE) and Zigbee, with four relays 10A/240VAC and four optoisolated inputs, works from 6 to 50V power supply.

It does amuse me that I wanted to change what was displayed on my light switch, so I had to edit a config file and redeploy a container... the future is weird.

peter,
@peter@area51.social avatar

@paco Not specific but changing a light bulb is similar.

Previously it was:

  • Turn off light
  • Remove old bulb
  • Insert new bulb
  • Turn on light

Now for me with

  • Remove old bulb
  • Insert new bulb
  • Discover in zigbee2mqtt
  • rename old bulb
  • rename new bulb to old bulb's id
  • check automation's are now referencing new bulb
  • turn on bulb

I saw some kind of interference a few days ago that really slowed down our Zigbee network. It was temporary and likely due a rogue 2.4Ghz wifi device, but it impacted how we used our home. So I was wondering if anyone out there has tried wiring most of their home automation kit?

Something like esp32s with wired NICs on a dedicated network? Sensor lines back to a central hub?

Klappt prinzipiell. Beide spielen mit.

Wisst ihr was nicht mitspielt? Genau . Was ja angeblich komplett lokal läuft.

I’m considering buying smart radiator thermostats, but I’m not sure about many of the claims, for instance the 20% savings on your bill and how smart are they really. I have district heating and according to my local heating company I use around 40-50% less than other comparable households. I’m currently looking at Aqara E1 Radiator Thermostat – combined with their TVOC –, as I already have their hub.
Any inputs would be greatly appreciate. 🥵

AngryAnt,
@AngryAnt@mastodon.gamedev.place avatar

@Fabrin I don't know about those claims, but we are using the E1 Radiator and a couple of others based on the same internals (Redis is one, off the top of my head).

They all work fine in our ConBee II + -based setup. I don't get the impression that it really matters which brand you get when they're all basically built on the same base. Though obv. if you plan to use the Aqara hub then there are probably restrictions on non-Aqara products.

question.

I have a remote(ish) outbuilding connected to my network via ubiquity nanostations, so too far for my mesh. Is my best bet to run a second zigbee2mqtt instance, or is there a cleverer solution?

kaiserkiwi,
@kaiserkiwi@corteximplant.com avatar
