Seeing a lot of WEA/EAS messages being sent to Barnsdall, Oklahoma... It appears they have few other communications tools with residents after tornadoes hit the town several days ago.

Disaster preparation task for the day (not yet complete): Took the new weed whacker to the (unwanted) weeds in the yard, to reduce work before the June 1st Brush Clearance deadline in our county, as well as to keep the seed heads from reaching maturity (talk to YOU, Artichoke Thistle aka Cynara cardunculus -- edible, but very invasive!).

10 Secure Places to Wait Out the Zombie Apocalypse

The real-world zombie survival guide. By JULIE GERSTEIN June 8, 2011

"The zombie apocalypse has long been a favorite subject of horror movies, but where would you hide if the undead really roamed the Earth?

The question may seem absurd, and yet the U.S. Centers for Disease Control once even released its own recommendations for zombie preparedness. And while the agency’s vows to investigate and quarantine an infection provide some comfort, it’s important to have a secure refuge in mind for the worst case scenario. In no particular order, we present to you the pros and cons of 10 real-world hideout options to help you make an informed decision..."

Also, based on the CDCs actions lately, you may want to take their advice with a grain of salt. Especially if they recommend only quarantining a day or so if you get bit. Just saying.

for tonight: filled up the gas tank, refilled an empty propane tank (for my generator + BBQ)

and task of the day: replaced the batteries in one of my units. Noticed a couple of days ago the fan was running constantly... because the UPS was attempting to boil off the rest of a (dead) 12V battery. Bought the $$$$ expensive local Batteries Plus batteries on recommendation of an IT data center manager I know. (have had very bad luck w/online battery purchases).
