Final Fantasy IX – 23 years after its release here in North America, I can now proudly say with pleasure that finished it earlier this week. I first fired up FFIX this past summer on a warm late August evening. After pulling the game out of a box from the basement and copying the four discs to my PC, I loaded them into the RetroArch emulator equipped with the Beetle PSX core. 1/
I've been plugging away at Cross Code the last couple weeks, but these dungeons are really trying me. I even looked up a guide because I couldn't be bothered with a boss puzzle. Otherwise it's an incredible game that I would recommend and would probably be an all time favorite if it weren't for the pacing.
I picked up Ender Lillies: Quietus of the Knights, Mega Man Legacy Collection 2 and of course #FFIX during the steam sale, it's gonna be a fun month! Can't wait to get the moguri mod set up and also throw my controller in the garbage after mega man
A minor complaint about #FFIX: The boss fights are unsatisfying. A lot of gear becomes available early via stealing from bosses, so a lot of boss fights are you sitting there turtling while your hardest hitter slowly plays the RNG for a piece of equipment. #FinalFantasy#Gaming#Retrogaming

I'd forgotten what an absolute terror Steiner was once you got him set up. Ice Brand, MP Attack, various type-specific attack boosters, and he crits for 2.5k at Lv. 15. Two or three-shots bosses. Madness. #FFIX#FinalFantasy#Gaming#RetroGaming
Okay best feature of #FFIX PC: it autosaves on every screen change, so if you have a sucky run of luck in a card game you can just flip back to the title screen and Continue and get your cards back :P #Gaming#Retrogaming#FinalFantasy

The story's about the conflict between life and death, of course the final boss is the incarnation of death.
Death is the main antagonist throughout the entire game, Queen Brahne conspires with it in Alexandria, it stalks you in Evil Forest. Death consumes Burmecia, Cleyra, and Alexandria. Death is a traitor, it turns on everyone it partners with -- even Kuja, in the end. #FinalFantasy#Gaming#RetroGaming
The design work is my favorite part of #FFIX. Even incidental characters have such interesting and well-crafted designs. Plus there are a TON of one-off characters who you'd think would have just some generic look to save budget, but they have unique designs -- like the orchestra members from the opening scene.
