"I deleted keys generated by our TV for 5 straight minutes. 5 Minutes of like 200BPM clicking. I restarted. Everything worked again. I laughed so hard I cried. I felt like I'd solved a murder."

Tech people, THIS IS A GREAT FANTASIC READ!!!

The title is, "DO NOT BUY HISENSE TV'S"

@davemark Just a reminder that a firewall/router like would've detected this and allowed you to block the within hours of it first happening! I rely on !

@marcoarment Have you ever thought about approaching as a sponsor? I don't know if they do sponsorships but they'd be a perfect fit for your podcast...and it's an AMAZING product.

needs to stop putting networks under the generic tag. They're audio podcasts!

If you depend on a third party to handle your IoT device you just own a pricy brick. They can stop at any time, they can change what is supported, they can change the price. It won't change as there is no money in making devices we can run under local control.

@thomastraynor Depends on which company you choose. , for instance, charges enough for the product and makes it w/open source linux and other tools - guaranteeing future ability to hack it if I need to.

? The same.

So, yes, most companies are selling you a pricy brick. SOME good ones sell user-handle-able devices.

Has anyone used ? It’s a device that helps you configure at-modem adblocking & firewall.

Most US isps force you to use their modem, so you have really limited options depending on your provider. And many providers have monopoly power. Like in my building, I can only use 1 provider.

I wanted to see what others thought of these devices

So, my Gold SE is calling me out!

Blame podcasts! 😂

Just got my early-release ! YEAH!

Soon to be rid of , once and for all!

Loved it when they were independent. Hated it when they put so much they promised in the original product behind a subscription!

@glennf Considering . I saw your review a little over a year ago on the (non-plus).

I've got 6's now. Tired of losing internal network bridging when cable modem they're connected to goes down. Also tired of them adding new features only if you pay $9/mo AND rebooting my network whenever they want to in order to update firmware.

Looking at Firewalla and . Did the Firewalla do everything a normal router does?

ps: I've got gig cable svc.

Can some of my help me make a decision regarding a new 2.5G eth (min) DHCP/NAT gateway (NO WiFi plz!) for my home network? I'll accept small biz solutions too.

Can't believe there's not one good solution!

@cavorter @bazurk BTW: I just got my early release that I ordered back when you both tooted to me about them!

Thanks for pointing me that way, @cavorter. Thanks for telling me about the pre-sale, @bazurk!

Gonna love this little gem! I know it!

It’s been three years (give or take a couple of weeks) since Netgear released a firmware update for my network switches.

The S8000 (GS808E) was meant to usher in a flagship low latency and gamer friendly switch. Can’t help but feel Netgear abandoned it shortly after it shipped.

Wondering if it’s time to replace the four 8 port switches I have dotted around our home. But with what? I use a Gold in router mode, and eeros for Wi-Fi (they replaced units that were also poorly supported).

@rob

What are your thoughts on the ? I have an incoming Firewalla Gold SE and would really love a first hand account of a user.

It’s been one week since I switched my home broadband smart queue from FQ_Codel to CAKE. It’s had a positive impact predominantly for my son’s latency whilst gaming, and less noticeable buffering / quality drops for streamed TV / film for the rest of us.

I was reluctant to enable alpha features on my but there haven’t been any issues I’ve noticed and family are pretty vocal at times when there are.

(We use CAKE because our down stream is a pathetic 34Mbps)
