TJ, 165 mile round trip from house to Red Rock Canyon State Park, just to see how well hotspot and remote antenna worked. Failed, there was an improvement, but not for the amount of money spent. Will not get Skylink due to Elmo.

What do we think of devices, ? And should I shelve the extra money for WiFi 6e or stick with the 20% cheaper WiFi 6? (No not paying for a WiFi 7 model)

The Netgear RS700S is seriously fast if you've got Wi-Fi 7 ready gear to connect it to. But it's also kind of pricey. Is it worth it? Here's my full review:

Over a year ago I bought a little and installed on it to serve as a for my

I didn't hook it up right away, and I forgot the credentials I used to set it up, but I connected it to a switch and it so I never bothered to fix it.

My AP needs updated and restarted all the time, but pfSense has been doing it's job ever since with absolutely no help from me.

Very impressive!

I'm in a good spot with my Home Lab for the moment. Itching to try new things, but need to ensure the basics are in place first.

Several layers of firewalls are in place. But I'd like to group devices (IoT, daily use devices like iPads, Laptops, etc.) away from anything serving content outside the LAN in more defined way.

My router is dumb and won’t do local DNS entries and that is really annoying me.

The new Netgear Orbi WiFi 6E Mesh System may be the ultimate home router setup with incredible speeds, quad-band connectivity, fast wired ethernet, and a ton of smart features.

Just finished installing the 630 6E and can't say enough how much better my home network is by separating out the 2.4gHz, 5gHz, and bands.

Those awful 2.4 devices that can't (won't) do go on their separate radio and SSID - no longer causing issues with 5gHz devices bouncing down to 2.4 and never back up to 5.

Also, the 2.5mbps of this device is amazing! REALLY helped my devices. No more buffering issues, and devices just FLY!

lamp, to random

The 1000 adapters which are very close to each-other on the opposide sides of the same wall (best real-world scenario), can barely do 200mbps, when connected directly to the MoCA adapter I can saturate the full gigabit connection.

And they said it could do 1000mbps. Bullshit marketing as usual.

& junkies: I am buying this:

It's a behemoth at ~10.5" square. I wanted to mount it on a wall, but I don't know the coverage the antennae provides.

I am "used" to thinking laying an flat would create a wifi dome above it & therefore putting one on a wall will create the same dome in front of it AWAY from the wall but this would mean I'd have to find one end of the house to put it on.

Does anyone know how this unit spreads it's bandwidth?

@glennf Considering . I saw your review a little over a year ago on the (non-plus).

I've got 6's now. Tired of losing internal network bridging when cable modem they're connected to goes down. Also tired of them adding new features only if you pay $9/mo AND rebooting my network whenever they want to in order to update firmware.

Looking at Firewalla and . Did the Firewalla do everything a normal router does?

ps: I've got gig cable svc.

This morning's Annoying Problem: Couldn't access the garage network switch. (the new GS308EP)

The clue is the switch has multiple VLANs set up, and gets its IP from DHCP, but crucially doesn't support management VLAN selection.

The DHCP lease expired overnight, so it asked for one on all VLANs, and got an IP from HASS... which put it on the IoT VLAN.

Is this documented in the manual? Nope... but it is on an old forum post, if you can find it:

Rest assured, there are already hundreds of comments about this online. :)

It’s been three years (give or take a couple of weeks) since Netgear released a firmware update for my network switches.

The S8000 (GS808E) was meant to usher in a flagship low latency and gamer friendly switch. Can’t help but feel Netgear abandoned it shortly after it shipped.

Wondering if it’s time to replace the four 8 port switches I have dotted around our home. But with what? I use a Gold in router mode, and eeros for Wi-Fi (they replaced units that were also poorly supported).
