Wait, is shutting down?! I just finished moving all my domains there from other registrars! What the hell is wrong with this company? Are they just actively trying to get us to hate them at this point? https://arstechnica.com/google/2023/09/google-domains-halts-registrations-as-it-waits-for-the-google-grim-reaper/

With Google Domains being sold to SquareSpace, I'm curious if people in the have a strong recommendation for an alternate registrar to transfer a domain to?

Nice reminder if you are using to start transferring your domains out to other platforms, I would use since it is pretty easy to transfer.

Sunset of not yet begin but there are already options highlighted. To be honest is one of decent alternatives if your domain extension is supported.

What are you using/planning to use as an alternative to /Squarespace?

So with Google Domains being hawked to Squarespace, and me trying to extricate myself from giant corporations, who's got recommendations for a domain registrar that's not shady and actively making the world a worse place?

Right now I'm looking at Dynadot and Infomaniak but I don't really know anything about them.

⏳ 2015: Man buys Google.com for $12 for 1 minute, gets reward | CNBC

⎧ But within about a minute the purchase had been canceled and Ved's money was refunded.

"Google could do this given the registration service used by me (aka Google Domains) belonged to Google," Ved wrote in a blog post on LinkedIn ⎭

With being the latest product killed by Google, is anyone else trying to transfer their .dev domain out? R53 doesn’t support the dev tld, and says it’s “coming soon” with no ETA… Any/all advice is welcome

Google is shutting down -- "selling" the 10 million domains it manages for its customers (inc all Google Workspace users) to Squarespace. Seriously dents any trust we can place in Google to provide robust business services. Bad day.

One useful side effect of the Google Domains fiasco is that we're all discovering very useful alternative domain hosting companies with comparable if not better deals. 🔥

I've seen good deals from Hover and Dynadot. Add yours to the list.

It should now be standard practice to have a killed by Google contingency plan if you're still enthusiastic enough about using Google products for anything beyond basic workspaces. Just saying.

OK, who can recommend a domain name registrar that:

  • Is boring and dependable and has a rock solid track record
  • Has a really good UI, including on mobile
  • Supports as many TLDs as possible
  • Isn't likely to get acquired by someone else
  • Ideally supports multiple payment methods as insurance against accidental card expiry

I'd settled on Google Domains... but they just sold themselves to Squarespace! https://9to5google.com/2023/06/15/google-domains-squarespace/

softinio,

@simon 100% same as you. My current plan is to move all my domains to cloudflare and for all tlds that cloudflare doesn’t support yet to porkbun
