Excited to report on some ASL progress! Last week I watched my first ASL video without needing captions.
Ok, the video was short AND signed by a hearing dad of a deaf daughter...but still! I got it! Even managed to figure out the one sign I had trouble with: it was this daughter's name sign.
Second, I asked my husband to give me a sentence that I would then sign. He gave me this: "I like my tea like I like my men: in a bag, and under water."
Is there a cool top of the line sleek hearing aid with great software and noise canceling options and it also plays music and sounds amazing with like nine lil microphones and 5 tiny speakers and it looks amazing and stuff?
my mom needs one and I have not been impressed with what others who use them say about them.
if I ever need one I expect it to do all this and more.
Shattered rocks like this aren't uncommon on the gravel bars out on the West End, but I am always excited when I come across one. I like poking at them to see if they crumble further, or nudging them to see what sort of shapes I can coax out of the shattered pieces without the whole thing coming apart. When they do come apart, I enjoy trying to piece them back together. Nature's little 3D jigsaw puzzles 🧩
I just read a book with deaf and hard of hearing characters. It was mentioned a number of times that folks record those using ASL or any sign language?? Like ppl just whip out their phones and record others and then post it on the internet and be like “omg how cute!” Is this a thing??
I’m HoH but I don’t use ASL (I know, I should learn). But like have people experienced this???
When making video media, stop fucking censoring your captions when you don't censor your voice. It is unbelievably shitty to #Deaf and #HoH communities and just generally horrific #accessibility practices.
I don't give a fuck about your video being demonitized. I don't care about your video being hidden. If you say "fuck" your captions should say "fuck", not "fudge" or "frick". If you can't do this extremely simple thing, don't swear or don't make it, I guarantee your video is not that important.
It is such a simple thing to do. People who rely on captions shouldn't get your censored information just because you care about them so little that the pennies you'll get from YouTube are more important than accessibility as a whole.
