For theme #TheMan, the first song that came to mind was "Tokyo Calling" by Atarashii Gakko. Straightforward callout of surrendering your life to The Man (and if the tokusatsu theming is anything to go by, an endorsement of wrecking the system).
For #JMusicFriday theme #OldButNew I have something that's more new-but-old-but-new. I got this earworm some time ago and couldn't place why I found it so familiar. I figured my love of hammond organ was messing with me again.
MONTHS later I was searching something unrelated and realized this song was OP1 of the the "You're Under Arrest" 1996 anime run, which I watched a bit of a long time ago. The sitcom vibe of returning to an old, friendly place was too perfect.
I have just the thing kind of in both ways one might look at the concept. Both "new to me" as is the official intent and a newer version of an old thing.
Here is a cover of Kokoro -- a relatively "old" Vocaloid song covered by #Hanatan but a newer redone one better than the first she did that I recently came across: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYpDJkih94Y
Plus just plain a darned nice song anyway.
Still a pretty "old" song, so many may have never heard it.
This is from the EN VTubing fandom, but the wotagei section of "Diamond City Lights" gets me every time. I've never been able to go to an actual concert, but I've always chanted along whenever it shows up on stream. (I love the Enna speeeeen on this one too!)
#JMusicFriday theme is #JCovers - this is probably my favorite of the flood of Oshi No Ko "Idol" covers and the only one I go back to all the time. Tim Henson is so freakin cool
Also the way he so casually drops the pick to unleash his full power 😭
For #JMusicFriday I'll share this cool cover of Jump by #Asterism. Love how this talented three-piece managed to incorporate the vocal and keyboard parts.
I believe they recorded this in honor of Eddie VH's passing. 🙏
This week's theme is covers, and I'm going with the most recent cover I heard which I can't get out of my head: Ado covering the Vocaloid track Buriki No Dance.
Ado's star only continues to rise, and this cover shows off her abilities so well!
I love this cover of My Boyfriend Is A Pilot by Ali Project from Macross the Tribute (that sentence alone is the stuff that 13 year old me's dreams were made of)- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmwZ1BvB8W4
This #JMusicFriday theme is to celebrate women. I can't think of a "women power" style song just off the top of my head and started to not even get involved in this one, but then I realized my favorite artists are actually already the perfect example of this. I'm talking about the various #utattemita and #utaite who worked to create an environment where even an independent person with no label can create and sell so much.
Pretty Cure celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and this song featured prominently in the anniversary PV. It was also the theme of "Precure All Stars Movie F" and "Kibou no Chikara: Otona Precure", which both aired Fall 2023. The song itself is bright, uplifting, and an anthem of self-love and optimism.
Special thanks to @pikestaff for introducing me to the true depths of Precure brainrot and hooking me, even belatedly, to this wonderful franchise. I wish I could broadcast more of your rants from over on cohost[.]org/pikestaff. May you have a wonderful time celebrating 20 years of NagiHono!
Hmm. This week's #JMusicFriday theme is #obscure . That one is a bit trickier because I don't really know what people know well since I already don't listen to the most popular stuff and find things more indirectly and backwards than most people do (particularly since I listen more to #utaite than anything else.) Mary did this cover 7 years ago of a song that doesn't seem well known as far as I can tell though and it's really pleasant to listen to, so I'll s hare it:
Most of my exposure to JMusic has been through mass-consumption brands and fan derivatives, so today's #JMusicFriday prompt "obscure" is a fun challenge. (Thanks, @NaraMoore !)
Bitei Matsuki has been releasing music for a few years now and has a small but growing following. I got hooked recently when "Persona" popped up on my YT recommends. The song flows like water - at once soothing and lively, punctuated by bursts of turbulent emotion.
I have spoken to @ThePop and will be taking over JMusicFriday for a while. I already micro-blog on chika and J Idols, so it is no trouble for me. I will be adding and trying out the prompt IdolSunday as well. Open for all idol music J Idol, K Idol, Kaigai Idol
I guess no #JMusicFriday theme, but people are sharing songs anyways so I guess I'll do the same. I have been listening to queen bee quite a bit lately, so I guess I'll share some of their songs:
Not sure if I missed the #JMusicFriday prompt, but I did want to share my favorite version of the Creepy-Nuts song that's going round rn. Aohi Rame is SO. DAMN. GOOD.
I did not see a theme for @ThePop's J-Music Friday this week, so I'm just going to drop the fantastic music video from Hanabie for their newest track, OTAKU Lovely Densetsu. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awx5vfb_aSY
Yes, I know I dropped the song last week, but they now have a music video! I have to share that too!!
