Case in point that sometimes the remasters sound better and the 80s were all over the place quality wise in vinyl. This original pressing is very bright and quite shallow as well as thin in it's physical form. I'm guessing they just didn't put the work knowing how big of an album this was to become.
Campoli Plays Paganini-Kreisler, Saint-Saëns (LSO, cond. Gamba) (1959)
When I'm not listening to reissues of 1970s soul jazz, I'm geeking over old London Decca classical records. This one was a thrift store find yesterday.
I bought this album in 1970 while in high school, for no other reason than I was mezmorized by the cover art, and heard that Miles is hip and I should be listening to him. At the time, I didn't get it and shelved it for years. It took being exposed to much more music to understand what genius is contained on these disks. So much history and influences are amalgamated into this music. #jazz#afro#rock#freejazz#milesdavis#BitchesBrew#nowplaying#vinyl
Inspired by a thing I saw on Reddit earlier today, I’m going to try listening to more complete albums this year. Maybe daily? We’ll see how it shakes out.
I discovered this album 25 years ago, in the spring of 1999, as I was just about to graduate from college, and was on the cusp of meeting the phenomenal woman I'd end up marrying. “I'll Fall with Your Knife" was a big hit for me, and it resonated with her too -- an early signal that we'd found something special.
#AnAlbumADay 148/366: In Between Thoughts... A New World by Rodrigo y Gabriela
I'm a lot more familiar with their early releases, but they played a bunch of songs from this when I saw them a couple weeks ago, and I really like how they've evolved their sound.
