Thanks @dansup for all your hard work on @pixelfed and good luck battling the Apple overlords. I hope to get #pixelfedApp back soon, but I guess it's a matter of waiting now
@Skoop
Oh, thanks for context, that must be why I saw a post about a new iPhone in the feed, makes sense, I wonder how difficult it will be to fix, is there a 2nd top favorite app #pixelfedapp people prefer for iOS? Android has #pixeldroid which is nice for redundancy. @dansup@pixelfed
iOS TestFlight users will get notified automatically!
Android users can navigate to Settings -> Android Updates and tap Download latest version or you can grab the latest APK from https://pixelfed.org/mobile-apps
The sha256 for the APK is fef6bfe8a2d290370f0bfe1df60234c615a693d76edd1ed8ddd9184481afe98a
We hope you like the improvements, we have more coming soon 🚀 🎉 #pixelfed#pixelfedApp
Push notifications on a federated platform (like Pixelfed or Mastodon) with 3rd party app support is hella complex, and the way gargron implemented it deserves much appreciation.
See, he could have limited push notifications to the official Mastodon app, but no, he had to do the ethical thing and make it available to any 3rd party app and service like UnifiedPush.
We're lucky to have developers like him, meanwhile I'm like considering just my app have push notifications cuz it's much easier 😅
I'm not really considering just limiting to my app, I'm going to emulate what he did with Mastodon and allow 3rd party @pixelfed apps to implement them as well.
I am writing a APNS/FCM gateway in php/go that will be used in the #pixelfedApp, looking forward to publishing that and blogging about it!
It will use the next gen, high performance arch that pixelfed will eventually be using, bringing perf and scalability to a new level 💪
Currently working on improving the @pixelfed compose UI and some API fixes and improvements!
The @vernissage developer suggested a few interesting enhancements to the API they would like to see like image exif support and I'm working on this too 😉
Using #relatica with recent #Friendica versions and the web client in parallel already is quite a pleasant experience. Now all it probably needs is notifications to replace Mastodon-API clients here. 🙂
Call me nitpicky, but #pixelfedApp still doesn't show video files when trying to post, while #pixelfed web version still doesn't allow more than one video per post...
How long will this be the case?!
#Mastodon limits the number/size of media files per post, and you can't combine video and photo - but the platform is mostly text based, so I can understand up to a point.
I've seen apps in TestFlight for 4 years before they get publicly released
Not saying thats how long the Pixelfed app will take, I'd rather go slow and carefully build a polished experience rather than rushing out something half baked with no or little input from the community.
I've been pretty sick the past few days, was feeling a bit better today and managed to get a new #pixelfedApp build out that should feel A LOT faster 😎
