#Utah law raises concerns in preparation for #GA226 Presbytery of Utah has already spoken out in opposition to the legislation. These types of legislation serve to demean and discriminate.
A reminder that religious organisations—all religious organisations—exist only to further their own aims. Those aims only include the supporting of others where it is beneficial to the religion.
David Price, Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s father, was consulted by a Presbyterian church committee on whether the Welcome to Country ceremony should be continued by church entities. He has no idea why. He is neither Indigenous or Presbyterian.
The committee did NOT consult the very people they were tasked with consulting: two Indigenous ministers and their own missionary organisation.
They also quoted Wakka Wakka woman Brooke Prentice out of context and without consulting her in a manner designed to further divide Christians from the Indigenous.
Why? Because they had an outcome in mind before they started.
‘Now the national, regional and local levels of the #Presbyterian church together are paying roughly $950,000 in #reparations for the harm and pain the closure caused. The amount is noteworthy. A “down payment” is being presented to Sealaska Heritage Institute and the Central Council of the #Tlingit & #Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska on Oct. 9, 2023.’ #PCUSA
This news is particularly confusing perhaps to outsiders. You have to read into it and understand at least a little #church history. Most #presbyterians in Australia merged into the #UnitingChurch in 1977. What's left in the #Presbyterian Church in Australia is the 1/3 of the most "conservative." The American equivalent would be something like the #PCA announcing that they are banning land acknowledgments at services. Bottom line, why does a national church body 1/2
