Mastodon #ProTip: If you haven’t yet, log into your account on the web & set up a few featured hashtags.

Featured hashtags let visitors to your profile quickly know what interests you & are different than just putting tags in your main bio decription. When tapped they search specifically on your timeline to reveal the topics you are interested in and post often about.

They display in clients like @ivory & are a way to quickly access posts for easy threading too. 👍

Modern Stoneage Debugging

Debuggers are great and they have their place, but never underestimate the power of simply printing "Barney was here" when tracing code.

Barney often needs some help from Wilma and Betty and his mate Fred, but if you have to bring out Dino and Bam Bam it's probably gone wrong. Maybe you should put the Flintstones away and break out that debugger now. 😉

Important: don't forget to remove them before deploying into production.

I've had the Poolbeg Stacks on retainer for most of my time here in Ireland. A lot of landscape photographers don't realise it, but you can (sometimes) book sessions with great models even if you can't afford their full day rates.

I only get off-peak times; mostly early mornings when the big fashion brands and tourism clients are still asleep. But that means I can get some nice sunrises.

You're beautiful, Ireland. How I shall miss you.

a color outdoor photograph. a set of warehouses in the foreground leads to a series of large industrial smokestacks in the middle ground. in the background, a small lighthouse shines against the morning clouds while the overhead clouds turn pink with the sunrise. a few seagulls fly over the warehouses. there are no people or vehicles in this picture.

#ProTip: A #SwiftUI #ViewModifier, as it name suggests, should only manipulate view content! You should always avoid placing any business logic here! View modifiers are real agnostics when it comes to business logic. Don't do that. ☝🏼

Right, some #SousVide #ProTip content incoming! #EasterPig

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

Tip 1: use your stove to assist with initially heating the bath, and use a very low temperature to help the cooker at higher bath temperatures. Induction hobs are ideal because they can hold an exceptionally low power.

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

Tip 2: on long cooks, cover the pot with cling wrap to minimise evaporation. I regularly do 18-24 hour cooks using this, and have never had a problem with the bath running dry #SousVide #ProTip #EasterPig

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

Tip 3: on medium to long cooks of 4+ hours, cover the pot with alfoil to minimise heat loss and reduce the amount of power needed to keep the bath at temperature. Shiny side down. #SousVide #ProTip #EasterPig

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

Tip 4: just buy the longest rolls of cling wrap, alfoil, and baking paper. It’s not like those go bad over time… (see previous 2 toots for photos) #SousVide #ProTip #EasterPig

jpm,
@jpm@aus.social avatar

Tip 5: double-seal your vac-pack bags. The seal is the weakest point, especially on higher temperature cooks like this. Move the bag a couple of mm so you get 2 separate seals close together but not overlapping

Today's #ProTip -- if you keep Emergency Coffee in the freezer, you should rotate it out occasionally. Beans keep for quite a while if your freezer is cold but there are still limits.

This public service announcement brought to you by my looming vacation, and the bag of beans I had to resort to with a harvest date of 2013 on them. (I don't know how good they are, I've been a bit nervous to actually try the pot I brewed...)
