🧵 Europeans are subject to something called the Bread Tax. It's when cultures do not adapt to technological progress. European bread goes bad in a day or two, whereas American bread is good for weeks. For this reason, Europeans are forced into dense housing to be near new bread.
“I primarily produce game content of a mechanical nature (spells, magic items, etc.), with very little content that could be considered Product Identity. With so little to hold back as “mine,” it feels like my publishing strategy gets fewer protections under the ORC than others who have a higher percentage of non-mechanical material they can hold back for themselves. Is there a way I can designate more of my mechanical content as Product Identity?
I’m glad they spelled this out. By keeping Orc “viral,” they’ve created a license that is not going to suit everyone’s needs. I’m fine with that, although I don’t like the viral nature. I’m glad they spelled out what being viral means (although they didn’t use the term).
@grumpygamer "is the chatbot reflecting your politics or the politics of the company that trained it?"
This reminds me of Paranoia, the #ttrpg set in a dytopian society run by Friend Computer, the completely benign AI that nobody really knows who is programming.
:blobfoxghost: SMALL VILLAGE BIG PROBLEMS: Mr Sato's Workshop :blobfoxghost:
An once prosperous business now on the verge of closing. Mr Sato is too focused on his family traditional pottery ways that can't fathom how to revive his dying workshop. Also, doesn't help that he never considered his daughters to continue running it! Maybe some supernatural help is needed or some kind words?
A village for Ryo Kamiya & Tsugihagi Hompo's cozy Golden Sky Stories! #Dungeon23#TTRPG#GoldenSkyStories
:blobfoxghost: SMALL VILLAGE BIG PROBLEMS: The Mansion :blobfoxghost:
What would be tale about frienship and making each other better than a insufferable princess character with blonde drill pigtails? Of course she laughs Mwah-ha-ha-ha style.
Extra points for elderly butler/majordomo and klutzy young maid combo. #Dungeon23#TTRPG#GoldenSkyStories
:blobfoxghost:SMALL VILLAGE BIG PROBLEMS: Misty Stream Village :blobfoxghost:
I have no philology degree on Japanese, so I will write non family names "translated" for easier use.
If you know how this village's name would be properly written please drop it in the comments! 😊
Anyway! A small village with a generational problem not unlike other countries around the world. Younger generations fleeing the countryside for the city while lonely elders work the land #Dungeon23#TTRPG#GoldenSkyStories
How deeply discounted do a talented-but-shitty #OSR creator's PDFs have to be before I can pick them up guilt-free, maybe paired with a donation to a nonprofit that helps the sort of people this shitty creator hurt?
Apropos of nothing, drivethrurpg has a Lmentations of the Flme Pr*ncess sale right now.
@jens I got the feeling there were lots of little easter eggs for people who play in (or are at least familiar with) the Forgotten Realms settings. Some of the places, for example, are names I've heard by osmosis by just being in the #ttrpg scene, even though I don't ever play #DungeonsAndDragons. Same with some spell names and other such little details.
Reading through Das Schwarze Auge adventure A1 Die Verschwörung von Gareth (The Conspiracy of Gareth) from 1985, by Reinhold H. Mai and Andreas Blumenkamp.
And oh boy, this is like a quantum leap in scenario design and complexity, if everything you knew before was the B-series.
This now classifies itself as the A-series (for "Ausbau" extension) and is written for the rules of the Abenteuer Ausbau Set, a rules and lore expansion that came out in early '85.
@kyonshi I remember playing that. It was and still is a highlight of my #TTRPG career. We all sat in wide-eyed wonder at the tourney, feeling like we've been thrown into the workings of the high and mighty. There were solo many options (compared to older adventures).
Your criticism is complete valid. The fact that none of us felt any of that as players is likely attributed to us playing as teens in the 80s and, in hindsight, to my dad doing a cracking job as a GM.
My post last night about #TTRPG#Kickstarters has generated a lot of discussion, so about how some positivity? What are some companies and creators who always deliver high quality stuff as promised (give or take a few months - hey, nobody is perfect!).
@Tim_Eagon I'll have to go back and read the replies! I don't do many Kickstarters but my impression is that most all run late - sometimes very late, if they happen at all - with no consequences for the project owners. If #ttrpg projects tend to be better than most, that's very good news.
A while ago, a fellow translator here was looking for other translators to follow. It’s been 5 months since her post, so I thought I’d ask the same thing: translators, where are you? Boost if you know any translators or professionals working in the translation industry. I’d love to meet fellow translators here so we can get discuss our routines, our joys, CPD, and everything in between.
We're live on twitch with Nordmark 22 - A Hill To Die On pt. 2!

This huge fey tree swallowed a pre-historic ruin complex and is now available with a commercial use license on my itch and drivethrurpg stores for your TTRPG map necessities.
The Guild of Icons return tonight at 7:30PM! Perhaps we should not have allowed an enemy unfettered access to the greatest vault of magic on the planet. Perhaps.
