@Iris_spring did a pretty monumental thing in last week's D&D game.

I recommend watching the whole thing because it was a pretty funny session all the way through, but this is the best Wish I've ever seen cast.

Kid: Mom, you are a Unicorn.

Mom: OK.

K: You turn into a dog.

M: What?

K: You are a shape changer.

M: OK. I go inside and say hello.

Me: Ahhh! A talking dog!

M: Bark.

Me: Did you just say the word "bark"?

M: "No."

YMMV but I feel like the majority of campaigns I’ve been in have been relatively short, and all the more so as I’ve gotten older and everyone has extra claims on their time.

I find XP/Advancement stuff in so many TTRPGs looks very stingy now, as I calculate how many sessions it would take for the players to get to X point.

(If you like slow/er advancement that’s great! I’m not trying to tell you your fun is wrong)

I need a better name for a concentration camp/experimental lab prison in a science fiction universe than "Camp Cordova". Any ideas?

In order to unseat D&D as market leader, a game would need to be highly salable (art, profitable, in shops), have extraordinary outreach (big streaming shows, etc), build cultural embedding (like after school clubs), and rules that better reflect its own actual usage at the table (arguably the easiest).

And then it'd need to keep doing all that for at least ten years, probably twenty, without a break.

@rivetgeek @LeviKornelsen Oh, it's definitely about diversifying and supporting stuff they like. For instance, they've released more board games (3) than books (1).

@cstross @rivetgeek Basic Role Playing - the Chaosium d100 percentile system seen in Call of Cthulhu, RuneQuest, Ringworld, and in an evolved form in Pendragon. It was released as a big generic quite some time ago and has recently been re-released.

Wouldn't it be sweet if every setting and character and system could be used with every setting and character and system in an enormous ?

So many systems already have multiverse settings (, arguably , even if they still have that planar thing going on).

Groups could team up for one-offs in the shared intersection of their usual settings.

@deathanddrek @ttrpg @Chaosium Yeah! Another example is that early translation software used as an intermediate step between other languages. So why not game with the intermediate system instead, right?

It's easy to say "you should leave politics out of D&D" for people whose very existence hasn't been forcibly politicized. Even if I didn't play trans PCs, as a trans woman my very presence at the table is political. 1/4

When you break bread with bigots, you show them that there are no social consequences for their bigotry. And you show marginalized people that you can't be trusted, because you care more about your social bonds with bigots than you do about the victims of that bigotry. 3/4

    This week in D&D we:

    • found out what we had thrown rocks at
    • negotiated a mulligan for our first ever 'killed outright' character (a wizard / old lady whose first instinct was to go melee)
    • tore through all our healing potions
    • eventually killed 2 to 3 slimes
    • discovered there were no cheese sandwiches left
    • gave the stink-eye to some orcs
    • reached the heady heights of... level 2!

    andi,
    @andi@im-in.space avatar

    This week in D&D we:

    • attacked a medium dragon, who may or may not have noticed
    • attempted to hide (unsuccessfully)
    • stayed in character
    • rescued Vincent the Ox (aka Dragonsbane)
    • got carried away
    • regretted our choices
    • hit every branch on the way down
    • slept
    • debated the relative merits of invincible bandits / vincible orcs
    • gained a reputation for huddles
    • left a baffling message
    • set out for adventure
    • rolled a 6 (in a bad way)

Next time on D&D: nothing good, probably
