Ever since the update to iOS17, I was unable to use my watch due to the sideloaded Pebble app constantly crashing badly. But I recently found out that iMazing could help restore the original IPA which is supposed to be a bit less broken than sideloaded. It seems to be indeed the case. Now I can at least load and manage apps/watchfaces. This is giving me more confidence that I can get back to using regular and transition away from the Watch by using the Pebble time.

Speaking as an old fancier of mechanical , back in the day, we owned one good piece, usually Swiss or Japanese with a black or a white dial, that we wear for decades, until we were gifted another watch our birthday or a significant event. But today, every watch enthusiast owns at least tens of watches, each colour coordinated to the wardrobe. What's up with that!

I know it is a bit unusual but I own a , a and a watch yet I don’t have any . I am going to fix that soon as I am missing a field watch in my collection. Hint: I went very cheap as I intend for it to be my beater 😁.

The joy of 😅. The Citizen E650 synced with the atomic clock tower during the night so its time was correct in the morning. The Casio only required to turn on DST so it was painless. Except for the Apple Watch obviously, everything else needed to be adjusted manually though.

Giving my Knot CAP-38 some wrist time today 😊

I have had my SBGA259 for almost a week. It seems to have deviated by about 1-1.5 sec so far. If we are extrapolating, this means 5-7.5 sec per month. This confirms that it is more accurate than my quartz 😅.

It looks like I am already on my way to get a for my collection. Instead of going for the SBGA211 aka Snowflake, I’ll be getting the SBGA259 aka Golden Snowflake 😁

ppn,
@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

Yay 🎉. This is incredibly pretty in person and probably underrated compared to the regular Snowflake. Very light on the wrist as it is titanium. A fine addition to my collection.

The SBGA259 aka Golden Snowflake on my wrist. It is mostly a Snowflake except with golden markers.

I have had the SBGA259 for 3 days. I know it is to be expected from the specs. But still it is crazy to witness in person that the Spring Drive movement has yet to deviate from a single second so far and is in sync with my E650 on atomic time. In comparison in my collection, my automatic Knot CAP-38 (YN84) is behind by 15 seconds in the same period. 😅

As my collection grew during my , I felt it was time to get a proper display box. I didn’t want a closed case but a display box with glass lid because:

  1. I want it to be pretty on the shelves
  2. when choosing what to wear daily, being able to see the watches inside helps
  3. on a more pragmatic level, my Citizen watch is an Eco-Drive model so it needs light to charge itself. I suspect that it won’t be the only one in my collection to be light- or solar-powered in the future

The watches display box with lid opened

I am definitely adding a #GrandSeiko at some point in my #watches collection. The only question is which model as I probably want to limit myself considering their price 😅

@ppn@mastodon.online avatar

The natural choice is the SBGA211G aka Snowflake. Having seen it in person, it is indeed a beautiful watch but I may want something a bit less obvious and I saw a lot of other beautiful at the flagship store in Tokyo. I don’t mind Hi-beat auto or quartz but I definitely prefer Spring Drive if possible which drastically reduces the amount of options I guess 😅

I know sooner or later I'm going to have to start doing my tax stuff. I started a last year, just a simple LLC centered around watches (as you may know already) and my brother told me that I need to track all of my tools and inventory. Basically, the idea is that "adding" all of this stuff up, my tools and watches for sale outweigh (significantly) money I'm getting in, so I'm technically operating at a loss. Hopefully it isn't too hard to punch that all in when I do taxes, because getting a little extra back would be very handy. I've tried looking around online for information about all this but it's worded in a way my brain just doesn't really comprehend right now. Hopefully I can get that figured out soon!

Also hey, if you need a watch fixed or are looking for a new one let me know. 🧡

Curious, what's everyone wearing today? Let me see your !!!

I've been working on this special and it's up and running great, I even jeweled the barrel arbor to make it extra special. Now, I'm wearing it to get real-world testing to see how well/accurately it runs!

What's your watch? Does it have a story? Just looks cool? Let me know!

I sense some strong “irony” from the fact that in my #watches collection, the most rugged, rock-solid, accurate, shock-proof and magnetic-safe watch is most likely the #SailorMoon one. Since I don’t own any GMT yet, it is also the only one that can display 2 time zones simultaneously 😂

Are there kid's that are surely (tested) configurable and compatible with server?
Traccar has hundreds of compatible devices (https://www.traccar.org/devices/), but just listed as "XT009" and the like, so I need to spend hours searching each one of them.
Community seems having found some, but are either old (so can't be found anymore on the market) or theoretical (so not tested).
Ideas? Hints?

I dig the old school vibe of this watch. Yet they have somewhat modern font, right? I like the white dial, modern font and red seconds hand combo.

And Indiglo illumination is cool.

The model is Timex Weekender 38mm.

I might change the strap for a more comfortable one tho.

A left hand holding an analog watch, pressing the side button of the watch to demonstrate the dial illuminated with a greenish color. The watch has got white dial, black font, black hour and minute hands and red seconds hand. The model is Timex Weekender.

Hey and I need a recommendation. My son is interested in a G-Shock watch with the following items:

  • Solar charging
  • Digital watch face
  • Shows date
  • Can set timers and alarms
  • Possibly get different colored bands? Not a deal breaker.
  • Under $150

There are so many models out there and I'm a bit overwhelmed! Help!

This is The Bull, a crazy little bullhead chronograph made by tiny Dutch microbrand #Stuckx back in 2015 or thereabouts. Last week I took mine a local jeweler to get a new battery put in... and they couldn't, because none of their tools could get the caseback off.

This week, I'll be taking it back to them, with a 3D printed tool sized exactly correctly to unscrew that dodecagonal caseback. I hope they're as excited about this as I am.

#watches #horology #repair

A close-up photo of the back of the watch, showing an unusual 12-sided shape to its caseback, next to a 3D printed ring with a matching 12-sided socket inside.
A close-up of the watch with its caseback removed by the 3D printed tool. A tiny sticker on the inside of the caseback reads "After the battery is installed, be sure to short-circuit the area marked AC and the positive battery connection." Inside the watch is a perforated metal plate with many cutouts showing some of the watch's internals, and a very small coin cell battery under a tiny metal clamp.

Does anyone have a watch where you get notifications from your phone, but lasts for weeks instead of a day (like a smartwatch) in-between recharging?
I have a Fossil HR, but the font is getting too small for my aging eyes, and I'm looking for other options.

Boost=nice for reach. 😉
