For the open social web to happen at scale, companies big and small need to adopt ActivityPub. Threads is the largest player to do this and the implications are huge.

On the latest episode of Dot Social I ask @rklambo and @pcottle, two thoughtful and genuine leaders on the Threads team, about why they're doing this and whether federation is a feature or foundational. Check it out on #PeerTube or wherever you get your podcasts.

Like this post to show your appreciation for TTPD (the Threads product developers)

Our most-requested feature in the past few years has been to federate Ghost over ActivityPub 🌍

We're thinking about it. It seems like there are many potential ways to do it.

Curious to hear how you would want it to work? 🤔

Tagging Zuck or Mosseri and getting a reply on this platform is equivalent to your favourite Twitch streamer reading your name from the chat out loud.

The xz supply chain compromise is nuts.

  • It’s hidden as a test case for a corrupt archive.
  • The injection is only in the source tar and not the git repo.
  • The backdoor only targets enterprise Linux distros that patch sshd to notify systemd, eg RHEL/Debian.
  • It came from a main maintainer and was introduced slowly over years. Everything is gpg signed.
  • They pushed for it to be added into Fedora 40 so it would be in RHEL10.
  • A PostGres dev noticed his ssh was slow and caught it by accident.

Hi Fediverse, here’s a Threads feature I’ve been working on - Live Scores!

NBAThreads - I know it’s late, but I did a deep dive into Live Scores to see what the feature is all about.

How are we feeling about this? 👀

Pro tip if you want to find Threads users on your Fediverse app of choice:

Simply search "@threads.net" - bonus if you're using an app that let's you filter down to 'people'!

markliederbach, to random

In case you need it, it's possible to 'request' blocking external users. This is located under Settings>Privacy>Block users in fediverse

Threads has been doing remarkably well here in Japan, which is very exciting to see, particularly given how strong Twitter is here. A big thank you to everyone who showed up at the event last night in Tokyo, so much positive and supportive energy 🙏🏼🙏🏼
