Step right up folks but please bare in mind that she thinks food causes ADHD as well.

AutisticAdam,

@servelan @actuallyautistic

Good decision.

Anyone can be inquisitive, but many Autistic people are extra thirsty for knowledge and I love it. Unknown things that intrigue others for a few minutes become our hyper fixations, interests and areas of expertise. It’s like others want to know things, but we need to know things.

Dinah doesn’t normally let me put a blanket over her. She was like ahh this is nice and took a nap.

AutisticAdam,

@ashleyspencer

I can only imagine.

I want it 🤪

AutisticAdam,

@ashleyspencer

It's all about the quilt/blanket for me.

I like the look of that 🙂

Since I see no one in person, and have lost any ability to mask because of it, my Midwestern accent is coming out.

For a little while I developed the twang of my state when I was around people all the time and the Midwestern accent went away. It’s like I was even masking with my accent to fit in with locals.

As a kid, I had a thick midwestern accent. Lived back up north for 5 years as an adult. My accent was not socially acceptable here in the south so I learned to hide it.

AutisticAdam,

@ashleyspencer

Not everyone will like you, that's life, I however do, and I'm confident alot of people here do. Stay away from people that make feel like you have to be someone you are not.

We are being judged no matter what, so be who you want to be.

I don't think I have to say anything more than this.

Have a good evening Ashley.

Autistic love languages can look different than NT ones. We like to share experiences, may unmask around people we are comfortable with, do penguin pebbling, share a special interest, stim, or infodump.

While I do enjoy your posts, I try not to use the term "different"

Merely just "how we are" 🙂

Not that one.

I looked it up.

The one I'm referring to is by Kristian Leontiou. Hit of the early 00s.

It’s really weird how people are totally fine with your quirks until you them that you have them because you’re Autistic.

@actuallyautistic

Autistic me: says nothing because I don't know what to say or sense people won't like what I say

Non autistic person: "You're too quiet, you need to be confident and contribute to the conversation"

Me: says something I think is kind, neutral or factual

Non autistic person: "No, not like that!!"

Me: Sigh

When I don't pick up on subtext, others think I'm being rude: this is not true.

When I think I'm being detailed and clear, others think I'm being condescending: this is not true.

When I try to explain my autistic point of view, they think I'm trying to manipulate them: this is not true.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Never tell a autistic person who has just summoned the courage to tell you they autistic that "you don't seem autistic" and that "you come across well"

Never ever.

Why would anyone ever think this is appropriate ?!

At what point did someone think that was a good idea ?!

You'd be surprised, or not surprised...

Feel free to list unappropriate words that's been said to you below.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

If someone is expressing their autistic joy/authentic self, don't tell them they are being too loud, too much or need to tone it down. Each time they are shamed for their unmasked self, a little bit of them actually breaks. It is a big deal unmasking as it is.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

It can be difficult to answer a question without including every detail because my brain is telling me that every single one is important.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Many people out there are trying to find a cure for being autistic.

This is because they see it as a negative disease.

Do I really have a "disease" because my mind may think differently to someone else ?!

No.

Being autistic is not, It's just another way of thinking and looking at the world, and It's actually beautiful.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Why do I over complicate things? I can recognise when I’m doing something the hard way but it’s like my brain can’t see how to do a task more efficiently until AFTER I go through extreme amount of struggle.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Me: shares my experience of something as an autistic person

Someone that's not autistic that you thought you could actually talk to: but don’t ALL normal people do that? You’re not special because of that.

Talk about a red flag response 🚩🚩🚩

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Going about life with a high base level of stress is not only deeply unpleasant, but detrimental to our mental and physical health, and a contributing factor to why we melt and shut down; our stress reserves are so close to capacity that we have little room for unexpected stress.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Has it ever happened to you where someone used direct communication with you but were really mean and aggressive about it. Yes, autistic people like direct communication, but that doesn’t mean talking loudly or speaking slowly. We just need more words /alternative explanations.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

I never learned, nor was I born with the ability to treat people in authority as being different to everyone else.

I just don't get it. I'll say the same stuff, except the same behaviour from them, and get extremely confused by how others react to them. How it is for me.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

Being autistic and having depression and anxiety go together very frequently for alot of people. Me included.

One reason for this is because natural behaviours ain't accepted by society.

So we're anxious about looking "weird" and depressed by others reactions.

@actuallyautistic

AutisticAdam, to actuallyautistic

I have been asked by numerous people where am I, so thought I would address this.

These days you will find me on Bluesky.

There is an Autistic Community building there just like here.

If you would like a invite code, then let me know.

Thank you for the support.
