    @matt I deleted my Threads and Instagram account on Thursday. I had little to no engagement on both of these platforms.

    Yay, finally done with my first game in React Three :nkoHappy: :react: :threejs:

    It's a quite simple thing that's only playable on desktop with a keyboard but hey :blobcatgiggle:

    Play it online here: https://u.fail

    Source code: https://gitcat.org/stux/game

    Can you get under 5 seconds? :ed_grin:

    @stux Nice. It's a great game.

    Notification pages in…

    Left: Mona
    Middle: Ivory
    Right: Threads

    IMO Ivory is great when there’s a low volume of notifications, Mona is much better when you’ve got more alerts coming in, and Threads is basically a mess 100% of the time.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @matt I use Mona. I have notifications turned off and visit the notifications manually. I’m happy with the app.

    The UK’s problematic Online Safety Act is now law

    The government says it will protect kids online; critics say it's a threat to privacy.

    https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/10/the-uks-problematic-online-safety-act-is-now-law/?utm_brand=arstechnica&utm_social-type=owned&utm_source=mastodon&utm_medium=social

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @arstechnica I doubt the OSB has anything to do with protecting the children. As a teacher, I understand the importance of safeguarding children and young people. I would have preferred the government spent their efforts improving the lives of those children living below the poverty line. They could have put more money into libraries, education and incentives for healthier food.

    Ugh, from a sore foot to sore hands.

    For a month or two a knuckle on my right middle finger has been sore. I think it's a little bigger than the same one on the other side, and the affected finger isn't as straight as the other one.

    A different knuckle on the same finger on the left hand is now starting to ache.

    Starting to suspect some kind of arthritis or rheumatism. Fun. Wonder if it could be related to the ongoing sore foot.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @sarajw Definitely worth getting checked out. My grandad ended up with arthritis, which started with little niggles in his hands and feet before hitting his knees.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @sarajw No worries. I hope you get an answer.

    Here's a page that mentions most of the things my grandad did. He also gave up alcohol. Movement was the key to helping your joints.

    Mastodon.social doesn't always populate Fediverse feeds.

    For example, @n3m3s1s when viewed on Mastodon, shows 0 (Zero) post.

    But if you click on that link that reads: "Browse more on the original profile" which takes them to their page, you can see they are clearly active.

    I have known about this issue for a while and am curious if anyone else has noticed this (or reported this issue).

    @Linux_Is_Best @n3m3s1s I’ve noticed this, too. I originally thought it was the Mona app playing up.

    @kylewritescode Technically, no. But it has something called mono styles that changes the text and puts it into a coloured box. I added colour using cmd+T to enable colour formatting.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @kylewritescode I can still edit the code within the box.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @kylewritescode Exactly. It would be great. I think Upnote is better for coding blocks. It automatically adds colour syntax to the code.

    @thurrott Just like the comments, I use DDG. I’ve started to play with StartPage and Brave search to see how different their search results are compared to DDG. As much as I like Apple products, I’m not a fan of their politics, even if it gets them to where they are today.

    The urge to delete Facebook, grows.

    I only friend people that I know and after the pandemic, I didn't know many people, left (many passed away).

    As a Meta employee, I ended up blocking family members. In the beginning, having the ability to blindly see everything posted by everyone regardless of their permission settings was "something."

    These days, my person account is only used to help moderate a few community groups and Facebook challenges me more often, just to sign in.

    1 of 2

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @Linux_Is_Best I have Facebook but I don’t use it. I certainly don’t post on it. I have access to a local community group. If anything, I have it to appease family members. I don’t see the point of Facebook anymore.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @Linux_Is_Best That’s good. I get frustrated that my friends’ posts are buried between ads, random news articles and video feeds.

    All I wanted to do was follow friends and family. Now it is a mission to see what is going on.

    Good morning and happy Tuesday to everyone in the today!

    For the today, tell me about your day ahead and what you hope to accomplish, be it personal stuff or work related stuff.

    For me, not much of anything really. Just going to rest, relax and enjoy the day as much as possible.

    @cliffwade Good morning. It's 15:34 here in England. I've been writing a blog about my sugar free month. I'm also organising my notes between Upnote and Apple Notes.

    I am debating if my next smartwatch should be a Samsung or Apple.

    My phone is neither. lol

    The problem with Google Fit is it does a fine job on keeping track of my steps, but the miles keep resetting.

    I'll do 30,000+ steps (13.5 miles) and Google Fit will say I did some nonsense like 00.2 miles.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @Linux_Is_Best Personally, I have an Apple Watch SE with my iPhone 12. I love the watch and the activity missions that come with it. Apple Fitness+ was great when I had a six-month free subscription to it. The full ecosystem is expensive but I’ve found so much value to my watch, especially when organising my day. Go with what suits your needs.

    CodeMacLife,
    @CodeMacLife@allthingstech.social avatar

    @Linux_Is_Best Stick with Samsung then. Their watches look great.
